𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝟱 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀! Last week was a really busy one for me. Between onboarding at work, prepping to launch my 14-day challenge, and preparing for two online speaking engagements, I barely had time to breathe! I love using slides for my training sessions—it makes them more engaging and professional. But with such a packed schedule, there was no way I could build a presentation from scratch. That’s when I remembered a tool a friend had once recommended: 𝙂𝙖𝙢𝙢𝙖 𝘼𝙄 With just one hour before my first session, I decided to give it a shot. I pasted the content I had prepared for the training into Gamma, and voilà! My slides were ready in minutes. With a few tweaks to personalize it, my slides were good to go. I used it again for my second event. Both sessions were successful, and I was relieved, impressed, and excited by this discovery. This is THE biggest mistake people make when they host webinars ... # 1: It's a Webinar. 😴 Webinars are, by definition, passive presentations. They are not engaging, not interactive, not memorable. They are a waste of time, resources, and attention. They are a waste for the organizers, presenters, and audience. 👩💻 Your audience may be listening, but how would you know? Your audience is off-camera, most likely focused on something else. Most presenters are boring, or self-serving, or too rushed or too slow. 🧠 Webinars are NOT effective learning tools. Reading your slides to a group of grown ups? Stop it. Send us the deck, report or brochure. We can read it ourselves. 🎨 Most decks have too much or too little info, and are poorly designed. 🙋♀️ Hosting a 5 - 10 minute Q&A at the very end ...? Also not effective. A conversation in The Diner about Presentation Skills and what to do when the technology lets you down. “Somebody find a flip chart!” Its becoming common for me to use online white boards for in person events - they are easy to use, accessible and the great thing is you can share live information and keep the conversation going online after the event. But what if the tech breaks? As it did last week - the wifi just wouldn’t wi. So I found myself back to standing at a flip chart, facilitating the conversation we were having about what makes a Great Presenter. Not only did we encapsulate everything that makes for a great presenter we had a really great time talking about it. Why did this go so well? I think the visual and physical nature of writing on the flip chart helped and the natural way it supported the organisation of the information allowed the conversation to develop extraordinarily well. I always encourage course participants to write by hand by giving them a notebook for the workshop. Its just so much better for their experience of the information, creativity and recall.
