It’s an exciting time to be involved with Remote Patient Monitoring because clinicians and organizations, such as the American Medical Association, are advocating for ways to improve patient care between office visits. Here's an article on new proposed billing codes that could give doctors more flexibility and reimbursement for RPM programs. #orthopedics #remotepatientmonitoring #patientexperience #proactivecare #ORTHObesity

One of the most common misconceptions I hear about Prescribe FIT is that starting a virtual care model for patient optimization will be expensive for your practice. The reality is quite the opposite. Prescribe FIT’s program is based in remote patient monitoring. It’s how we help provide patients with the ongoing support they need to make real change in MSK health, and how we create more touch points between patients and providers. And fortunately for both patients and providers, most major insurances will reimburse for care administered through remote patient monitoring. In 2024, there have been several updates to the CPT codes and methods of reimbursement patients and practices can access. Take a look at our guide to the recent changes and comment on any questions you have below. #orthopedics #remotepatientmonitoring #patientoptimization #MSKhealth

We have all the data at our fingertips, and it’s revolutionising the way that healthcare practitioners and patients interact for the better! ✅ For same-day surgeries, collating, visualising and analysing in-house data right away is a must for speed and satisfaction. ❗ Electronic Medical Records can provide those data points, but also muddy the ability to create real value across the patient pathway. Solving the EMR data challenge is all about efficient, effective healthcare systems. See more here in this post from Mike Berend! https://lnkd.in/eKhQrmNH #EMRs #patientpathways #orthopaedics #healthtech

Which hospital would be your choice: Imagine you need to choose between two hospitals for an elderly relative surgery. Out of each hospital’s last 1000 patient’s, 900 survived in hospital A while only 800 survived at Hospital B. So it looks like Hospital A is the better choice. But before you make your decision, remember that not all patients arrive at the hospital with the same level of health. And if we divide each hospital’s last 1000 patients into those who arrived in good health and those who arrived in poor health, the picture starts to look very different. Hospital A had only 100 patients, who arrived in poor health, of which 30 survived. But Hospital B had 400, and they were able to save 210. So Hospital B is the better choice for patients who arrive at hospital in poor health, with a survival rate of 52.5%. And what if your relative’s health is good when she arrives at the hospital? Strangely enough, Hospital B is still the better choice, with a survival rate of over 98%. So how can Hospital A have a better overall survival rate if Hospital B has better survival rates for patients in each of the two groups? Statistics are persuasive so much so that people, organizations and whole countries base some of their important decisions on organized data. But there’s a problem with that. How statistics can be misleading. What we’ve stumbled upon is a case of Simpson’s paradox, where the same set of data can appear to show opposite trends depending on how it’s grouped. This often occurs when aggregated data hides a conditional variable, sometimes known as a lurking variable, which is a hidden additional factor that significantly influences results. Here, the hidden factor is the relative proportion of patients who arrive in good or poor health Simpson’s paradox isn’t just a hypothetical scenario. It pops up from time to time in the real world, sometimes in important contexts.

🔮𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 2025: 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 As we approach 2025, the healthcare industry stands at a crossroads—where innovation meets necessity, and the choices we make today will define the future of patient care. We recently surveyed some of our clinical and practice leader customers to gather their thoughts on the key trends and industry shifts shaping the healthcare landscape. Top of mind for many practices? Not surprisingly, AI. Here’s what they had to say: Everyone (mostly) agrees that AI is moving from hype to reality. As AI use cases continue to move into community-based care settings, our customers are ready to put AI to good use. As Dr. Roy Benaroch of Pediatric Physicians puts it, “AI has been fun to talk about, fun to speculate, fun to use as a toy—but it’s time to get serious. How can genAI genuinely help doctors and patients? ” 2024 highlighted one very promising use case for genAI, ambient listening, with a proliferation of new and updated solutions and deeper workflow integrations (including athenahealth’s new Ambient Notes solution) promising to save physicians’ precious time. As Anthony Brooks, MBA, CEO of OrthoLoneStar, highlighted at athenahealth’s Thrive event in October, ambient listening will be game changing for physicians, in particular younger physicians wanting to prioritize work/life balance. That said, some providers still feel that AI technologies such as ambient listening are overhyped. Mohammad Kahn, CEO of Independent Physicians of Wisconsin, believes AI notes might never compete with notes typed or dictated directly by the provider. AI as differentiator for practices, helping them attract and keep up with the patients. Elizabeth Bauske of Barrington Orthopedic Specialists suggests AI will be a differentiator for some practices, emphasizing the importance of being willing to explore "any and all" solutions that improve patient care and encourages others to do the same. Dr. Benaroch echoes this sentiment, stating, “I want to test anything that reduces the amount of time I’m expected to work outside of patient encounters.” Looking forward to more AI use cases to lift more administrative burdens. While clinician documentation takes up a lot of physicians’ time, there are many more use cases for AI and automation in clinical practice. Dr. Katherine Gregory of San Francisco Gynecology points out that automation could help greatly with claims process, while Amanda Moats of Pensacola Cardiology looks forward to tools that could check patients in and out, as well as manage authorizations for practices (in parallel to robust tools insurers already deploy). As you look ahead to 2025, what are you looking to test or implement when it comes to AI? - Alicia Bassolino - V.P.
