I had the pleasure of visiting Hôtel de Crillon, Paris yesterday - here a few examples of their lighting in the entrance. Soft, warm whites, functional and ambient lighting, perfect combination.

Lights out Having stayed in numerous hotel rooms over the years in my line of work, it still appears that many don’t seem to get the switches for the lighting right. It was as if the electrical interfaces and connectivity were designed by people who have never stayed in a hotel room. I don’t know about others but it’s clear to me that the room only needs a few switches that should be clearly marked, and situated by the bed. 1. One for the entrance area 2. One for the desk 3. One for the night light 4. And one for the bed head There should also be stand alone reading lights on either side of the bed (for queen and king-sizes beds, or at each of the twin beds) that should be individually controlled. Not rocket science but so many overthink the process, try to be too clever or fancy, and ultimately get something so simple all wrong. #hoteldesign #roomlighting
