Becoming a great leader for your team to follow and emulate IS the most important factor to your success as a business owner. Here are 3 key leadership qualities you should work on developing every single day. #1 Communication Above Everything Else As a successful leader, you must be able to communicate effectively with your team. This means having the tough conversations, being open and transparent about your goals and expectations, listening actively to feedback and concerns, and delivering clear and concise directives. Prioritizing communication as the foundation upon which trust and respect are built is essential in your leadership development. #2 Be The Example To push your team to greatness, you must model those qualities. Your team needs to see you setting high standards for yourself and demonstrating a commitment to integrity and accountability. When your team sees you leading by example AND WINNING, they will be more likely to follow suit, resulting in a culture of excellence that propels your organization forward. #3 Empower Your Team For your team to achieve their full potential, you need to provide direction, then let them do the work. This means delivering top notch training, delegating responsibilities, and providing opportunities for growth and development. It also means creating a culture of innovation and collaboration, where your team members feel the freedom to contribute their ideas and take ownership of their work. By promoting a sense of ownership and autonomy among your team members, you'll create a highly motivated and engaged workforce capable of achieving great things. Finally, inspect what you expect. The development of your team needs to include training, coaching, and clear metrics that they need to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly! Go Be Great Leaders! Go DMN8!!

One time I received constructive feedback, and I took it really hard. But it ended up making me a better leader. Years ago I participated in a 360-degree leadership evaluation—a process where your bosses, peers, and direct reports all provide feedback on your performance. Eager to improve, I jumped at the chance, even when my partners were hesitant. During an intense three-day workshop with 15 CEOs, a professional coach zeroed in on me. His feedback? My greatest strength—my honesty—was also my Achilles' heel. Under stress, my honesty became frankness and a mindset of: "I don't have time for this. I'm just going to tell you like it is.” What I thought was refreshing directness was often perceived as harsh or inconsiderate. This realization hit me hard (I was going through a stressful period that heightened my emotions). I spent that weekend in tears, feeling vulnerable and exposed. But it was a turning point. I realized that self-awareness is a superpower—and one that is lost on most. Now, before entering high-stress situations, I consciously regulate my communication. I remind myself to use my strength of honesty thoughtfully, not as a battering ram. Leadership isn't always about leveraging your strengths—it's about understanding how those very strengths can become liabilities if not managed properly. Have you ever had a moment of self-discovery that changed your leadership style?
