Edge Impulse CEO Zach Shelby opened the company's "Imagine" conference this week with an excellent keynote covering the future of edge AI. He addressed the three big challenges holding companies back from shipping AI- and ML-based edge applications at scale: (1) generating industry-specific data, (2) optimizing AI / ML production workloads, and (3) deploying at very large scale (millions, not dozens or hundreds). Zach's talk is a master class in edge AI development and I recommend it to everyone working on edge and IoT products. Zach's first slide set the context: “By 2026, at least 50% of edge computing deployments will involve ML, compared with 5% in 2022.” (Gartner) To clarify, that's 50% of edge deployments, not edge devices, so I think that's a conservative estimate.
