Spent the weekend reading about the power and impact of systemic advocacy and some of the historical and grassroots movements that aided in its development. Systemic advocacy embeds the voices and experiences of service users in in the heart of the systems and services that serve them, and can create wide spread societal change. It’s s topic very close to my heart and, not to sound like a broken record, but a practice that should be a normal and valued part of service delivery and design. Advocacy on a one to one basis is powerful and I regularly see life changing empowerment worked by my colleagues and peers. But every time we close a case there’s another person waiting in line for support. If systems can begin to be more open to the voices of the communities they serve then we will begin to see changes that not only help people now but that also breaks down social barriers for future generations. #Advocacy #SystemicExclusion #UserVoice
