A few months ago, an email landed in my inbox—a call for secondment positions. At first, I hesitated. Should I apply? Would I be selected? Could I hold my own in a new role alongside people with years of experience, some even from outside the communications field? These doubts felt heavy, but soon, they became my reason to try. The very challenges that made me question myself became the motivation I needed to step out of my comfort zone. This moment made me reflect on the Dunning-Kruger effect—the idea that sometimes, those with limited experience undervalue their abilities while others with more confidence may overestimate theirs. I realized I was holding myself back not because I lacked skill, but because I was underestimating my potential. So, I applied. And to my excitement (and slight disbelief), I got selected! For one month, I had the privilege of working as the Sustainability Support/ Communications Officer with the Environment and Sustainability Support Team at Campbelltown City Council, SA. In this role, I got to: -Develop strategic communications and project management plans. -Craft engaging content to drive sustainability initiatives. -Support meaningful programs like the Campbelltown Cool Spaces Program to help the community during heatwaves. -Raise awareness about waste management and sustainability. This experience pushed me to grow, learn, and contribute in ways I never imagined . It taught me that stepping into the unknown—no matter how daunting can lead to some of the most rewarding moments in your journey. As I return to my role as Youth Officer (Programs and Events), I carry with me a newfound confidence and gratitude for the opportunity to challenge myself. For anyone who’s debating whether to take that leap: You’ll never know your potential until you give yourself the chance to try!

It's estimated that at least 70% of all new #jobs are never advertised. Personal referral or internal promotion/re-assignment are the most common paths to recruitment. In other words it's about who you know. Working the system. Critical to that system are the recruitment agencies, which play both sides of the market. Acre is one agency that not only recruits for sustainability jobs, it plays an active part in creating them. "We work with corporates on building out their in-house sustainability teams" says Greg Brittian, Acre's Head of Sustainability for APAC. In that capacity he has a hand in both creating the roles, and filling them. So he's a critical node, if you will. A networking hub. 🕸 Here, he talks about the landscape for sustainability-related roles and the skills that are most in demand, as well as his own career path in the sustainability industry. 🎧 Tune in now: https://lnkd.in/gTT_sBQP #sustainability #ESG #greenjobs #careeradvice #careertransition #MyGreenFuturePodcast #impactcareers
