Do you have the best team??We all need some stars...!! We all want them in our team! (SPOILER ALERT...there is a big BUT coming...) ENJOY this fantastic video with Adam Grant. Adam Grant is an incredible guy, who is a LeBron James and Shane Battier in his field, all in one! (I guarantee, you will love this video even if you are not a basketball fanatic) Below is my very personal take on this... I worked in a place where those that were perceived as stars, as major individual contributors to the profit line, were treated as such! That approach has certainly raised the confidence of those “stars” in the short term and exposed them to more opportunities, retained them from competitors, and improved the bottom line. But in some cases, in the long term, it has been detrimental to their own confidence and even to the bottom line of the institution!!! Don’t get me wrong, stars are key and can make a company lead in their industry, but the right organizational culture is essential. Humility and a thirst for growth and improvement can swiftly disappear when there are too many stars… What happens to their confidence when they are not performing, in an environment where they expected to always exceed and outperform? Some may hide their faults, blame others, create barriers, burnout as they put too much pressure on themselves…to meet that image of excellence promoted by the culture of the organization. As Adam Grant puts it simply “Lots of egos means infighting”. Have you got the right culture in your organization? Do you have the right balance between stars and role players? Is it a safe place for role players to speak up and add their views, their different perspective, so that the stars can shine even brighter? “Excellence is always striving to get better”. (Adam Grant) When was the last time that your organisation has reviewed its culture? When was the last time they have asked what can we improve? If you are in management, how would you like to see it changing? What can you do? Does your organization know how to spot a playmaker during an interview process? Do you? #leadership # management #organizationalculture

My column today in #TheManilaTimes: "As you move forward to face the new year, I'd like you to continue with the momentum you've made. Keep your mindset a winning mindset regardless of when things seem improbable. Next year isn't going to be easier, that's for sure. But you've already created a blueprint that worked well for you. It's time to look at the blueprint and see how to make it an even more impressive masterpiece. "I'm sure many have doubted your talent, skills, and conviction — your entirety. But here you are, who may have shut those doubters for the accomplishments you made. That's more likely because, in your mind, things may seem improbable, but they are not necessarily impossible." https://lnkd.in/gV7XQmQw #FilipinoMotivationalSpeaker #LeadershipSpeakerPhilippines #AsianFilipinoSpeaker #LloydLuna #LeadYourDream #LeadtheLifeOfYourDreams #FilipinoMotivationalSpeaker #LloydLuna20years #FilipinoAuthor #FilipinoLeadershipSpeaker #StepbackLeadership #WorkRelatedWithLloydLuna #AliwChannel23 #DWIZ882 #PublicSpeakingInstitute #PublicSpeakingCoach #PublicSpeakingTrainingPhilippines

Imagine the scene: she’s just faced a harsh rejection from an audition for King Kong, told she was too "ugly" for the role. 😲 But did that stop her? Absolutely not! Instead, she anchored herself with self-belief, faced the adversity, and responded, “I'm sorry you think I'm too ugly for your movie but yours is just an opinion out of thousands.” Now, with 18 Oscar nominations under her belt, Meryl Streep stands on the peak of her career, showing us all the view from the top, achieved through perseverance and unwavering self-belief. 🏆 Let her story be a reminder to all of us: when someone tells you "no," or tries to derail your journey, remember it's just a single gust in the grand weather system of opinions! Lessons Learned from Remember the Titans (Bringing a Divided Team Together) In Remember the Titans, Coach Boone faced a nearly impossible task - uniting a football team divided by deep racial tensions during 1970s school integration in Virginia. He didn’t do it with grand speeches or instant solutions. He did it through shared goals, mutual respect, and a relentless commitment to the team’s success. He defined success as coming together for a common cause. (Watch the video clip attached) In the workplace, team divisions—whether caused by differing priorities, personalities, or perspectives—can feel just as insurmountable. But just like the Titans, unity starts with leadership and vision. 1. Create a Shared Mission: Coach Boone made winning the championship a non-negotiable goal. Similarly, leaders must clarify the “why” behind the team’s work and ensure everyone feels invested in achieving it. 2. Break Down Barriers: Boone forced his players to get to know each other—roommate pairings, heart-to-heart conversations, and moments of vulnerability. In the workplace, creating space for collaboration and understanding helps break down silos and fosters trust. 3. Celebrate Small Wins: The Titans didn’t win over night. They built their success brick by brick. Recognize progress, no matter how small, to show the team what’s possible when they work together. Unity isn’t about making everyone the same; it’s about turning differences into strengths. When a divided team aligns around a shared purpose, their potential is limitless—just like the Titans. Going into a new year, let’s remember: it’s not about where we start. It’s about where we go together. EquipmentShare #rememberthetitans #teamwork #unity
