If we have decided to implement the EU-Deforestation Regulation, please let it be for the good of the small holder farmer, and the impact at farm level! I believe a regulation like the #EUDR can be a good step, but has the potential to only be beneficial to large exporters and farmers, and might exclude small holder farmers, who are marginalised often already. Power to the farmers: let's empower those who deserve the extra revenue of high quality coffee. How? By traceability and geolocalization trainings of local communities and local consultants? Curious for your thoughts! Thanks CBI - Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries for the invitation to speak and Fred Janssen. #Europe #Deforestation #smallholders #coffee #sustainability #premiumcoffee #farming
THROWBACK | On 25 and 26 June, CBI organised a two-day event in Copenhagen for alumni in the coffee sector. ☕ Following a similar event last year in Rwanda, this year's theme centred around the upcoming EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). As the European market sets increasingly high Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) requirements in the coffee sector, CBI met with former Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) exporters last week to discuss the implications of the EUDR, which will take effect on 1 January 2025. ✅ This event provided an excellent platform to reconnect with alumni and discuss crucial topics affecting the coffee sector. Engaging with former participants offered valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by the EUDR. Key speakers included Gustavo Ferro, Jeroen (Jerome) Kruft, Michael K Jakobsen, Ariel Zorrilla, Teun Vogel, Muhammad N. M. Fadli, David Browning and Anne-Marie Roorda. A recent report titled ‘’The Cost of Media Stereotypes to Africa’’ highlights that Africa loses an estimated $4.2 billion annually due to the persistent negative portrayal of the continent in Western media. This biased narrative, which disproportionately focuses on political instability, corruption, and crises, not only distorts Africa’s global image but also restricts foreign investment and hinders growth across key sectors. In my view, the true economic cost is far greater. These misrepresentations go beyond lost GDP—they diminish Africa’s cultural influence, stifle innovation, and limit the continent’s potential on the global stage. This is why we are so excited about what we are building at EATO. Our mission is not only to elevate the global perception of African cuisine but to empower chefs, creatives, and African SMEs to reach new markets. By showcasing authentic African flavours through high-quality content and products, we are reshaping the narrative and unlocking new opportunities for economic growth and empowerment across the continent. If you share our vision for transforming Africa’s global standing through food and culture, contact me today to explore how you can get involved with EATO as we build Africa’s largest food network and drive meaningful change. In 2007, the first Nyéléni Forum took place in Mali, bringing together social movements for #food sovereignty from all over the world. Now, it's time for new mobilization within and beyond the food sovereignty movement. We must build our response at both global and local levels, and tighten alliances with climate justice, antiracism, health, labour, feminist, and social and solidarity economy movements and organisations. Systemic transformation is now or never. 🌍 In 2025, the Nyéléni Global Forum, will be held in India. This will be the space for strategy and organization and to kick off this new phase of the food sovereignty movement. 👉 Read more and join here: https://lnkd.in/d97m82T8

Regional Integration: Building more robust connections between countries. 2. Trade Corridors: Developing efficient pathways for trade. 3. Private Sector Involvement: Encouraging businesses to play a pivotal role. 4. Youth and Women Empowerment: Ensuring inclusive growth by involving young people and women. Lots of things to say from Adejoke Lasisi’s post here! I comment the great work she does at Planet 3R and I look forward to meeting her some day! One of the lesson I want to mention here is: You represent a people and it’s important you do so well! It goes beyond you! One way to ensure you do so well is by embracing the learning process! In a world full of opportunities, the pursuit of knowledge is one of the most powerful paths we can take. 📚✨ Learning isn’t just about acquiring facts; it’s about growing, evolving, and transforming ourselves into better versions of who we are. Every experience, whether a triumph or a challenge, teaches us something valuable. 🌱 Here are some key lessons to embrace on this journey: 1. Stay Curious: Let your curiosity lead the way! Ask questions, seek answers, and explore new ideas. Curiosity opens doors to understanding and innovation. 🔍 2. Embrace Mistakes: Mistakes are not failures; they are stepping stones to success. Each misstep brings a lesson that guides us toward improvement. Don’t fear them—embrace them! 🚀 3. Cultivate Resilience: Learning requires perseverance. When faced with obstacles, remember that resilience is built through challenges. Keep pushing forward and adapt as you go! 💪 4. Connect with Others: Learning is often enriched through collaboration. Share your knowledge, listen to others, and build a community of growth and support. Together, we can achieve more! 🤝 5. Celebrate Progress: Acknowledge your achievements, no matter how small. Each step forward is a reason to celebrate and a reminder of how far you’ve come! 🎉 So, let’s commit to lifelong learning and open ourselves to the endless possibilities that come with it! 🌈 The more we learn, the more we grow, and the more we can contribute to the world around us. Remember, you are not just learning for yourself; you represent a community. Let your journey inspire others to embark on their own paths of discovery! 🌍✨ #LifelongLearning #GrowthMindset #Inspiration
I have made it ooooooo💃💃💃💃 Director General of World Trade Organization WTO was really impressed with our solution at Planet 3R. She was also impressed with the amazing work Ifedolapo Runsewe does with discarded tyres in Nigeria 🇳🇬 It's an honor to have both our companies representing Nigeria and Africa at large. We look forward to more Nigerians and Africans showcasing our innovative solutions at the next edition of Trade and Environment Week 2025. I didn't know how to blush in the photo😊...I was beyond happy. I even forgot to remove cap and jacket. Ti won ba gesin ni inu mi, ko ni ko se. In the wake of President Museveni's recent speech, the story of Uganda's coffee trade – once the lifeblood of countless communities – feels even more poignant. Generations ago, Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) became the lifeline for families across the country, helping them send their children to school, keep food on their tables, and preserve a way of life rooted in rich agricultural traditions. Coffee farms, tended by hand and heart, were more than crops; they were the foundation of families and villages alike. But as years passed, political shifts and centralized controls slowly crept in, altering the balance between Uganda’s coffee farmers and the authority that was supposed to empower them. Over time, decisions taken in distant offices began to overshadow the lived experiences and ancestral knowledge of farmers. Regulations were imposed, prices were controlled, and suddenly, the farmers who had once stood at the center of Uganda's economy found themselves pushed to the periphery. Museveni’s speech brings mixed emotions. There’s pride in the strength of Ugandan farmers, whose resilience has carried them through difficult seasons, economic crises, and shifts in power. Yet there’s sorrow, too, for the traditions lost, as younger generations leave their villages for opportunities in the cities, their hands untrained in the methods their ancestors perfected. The loss is profound: with each farm sold or abandoned, part of Uganda’s cultural identity fades away. This is a reminder that the choices made by leaders today will ripple through time, affecting livelihoods, cultures, and traditions – shaping the Uganda of tomorrow. Now, amid discussions on development, it’s crucial that Uganda’s coffee heritage is honored and preserved. Only by valuing and protecting this heritage can we hope to give future generations a taste of what sustained so many before them.

I was truly honored to have received an invitation to the East Africa Social Business Conference 2024 hosted by Tangaza University Nairobi. 🙏 The event was a powerful convergence of minds, ideas, and purpose-driven individuals committed to positive change in our region. 🌍 Learnings from the Conference: Navigating Governance Conversations Amidst Anti-Finance Protests As we engaged in spirited discussions during the conference, one topic stood out: governance. In the wake of anti-finance protests sweeping across our cities, it’s crucial that we reevaluate our governance structures. Transparency, accountability, and inclusivity must be at the forefront of our efforts. Let’s ask the tough questions, challenge the status quo, and work collaboratively to build resilient systems that serve all stakeholders. 🤝 Gratitude and Commitment I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the organizers, speakers, and fellow attendees for fostering an environment of learning, empathy, and collaboration. Intra-African Collaborations for Economic Resilience Intra-African collaborations have emerged as a potent force for addressing historical trade imbalances and promoting inclusive growth. The East African Breweries Ltd (EABL), a subsidiary of Diageo, collaborates with local farmers and suppliers for essential raw materials like sorghum and barley. This collaboration supports local agriculture and strengthens supply chains, fostering economic development throughout the region. By reducing dependency on external markets, robust collaborations among African businesses deepen intra-continental trade, bolster economic resilience, and stimulate job creation, innovation, and poverty reduction – critical elements for sustainable development. How can collaborative efforts in agriculture contribute to strengthening local supply chains and driving economic development across the region? Don't miss the chance to engage in insightful discussions about powerful collaboration strategies that are driving Africa's economic growth!
