This is just amazing! ESpanix has a new POP, hosted at the Barcelona Cable Landing Station. The expansion of ESpanix outside the metro area of Madrid has been in the air for quite some time now, and it took a Cable Landing Station to make it... well, land. 😅 I expect existing ESpanix members from Barcelona to connect there as well. They can keep their existing ports in Madrid for increased redundancy and capacity or drop them to cut costs. Either cases are positive for them. 😁 I'm curious to see how the networks will use their Barcelona ports: will they peer with other local networks only? Will they prefer to peer with Madrid only? Or both? ESpanix traffic matrix will grow anyways. Now, the big question: who's next? Will ESpanix open more POPs and where? Stay tuned for more!
ESpanix opens a POP in #Barcelona. The Barcelona Cable Landing Station (CLS), owned by AFR-IX telecom, and ESpanix announce their agreement that allows companies in the Catalan capital to access all ESpanix services, in particular ESpanix neutral Node. Following the launch of the ESpanix Reach service last April, which gives access to ESpanix from the main European data centers, this agreement extends the presence of the neutral node to the city of Barcelona. The new access point is attractive for Catalan operators and companies as it reduces the transport cost between #Madrid and Barcelona. Companies that are already connected to ESpanix in Madrid from Catalonia can now connect from the CLS facilities. In the same way, CLS customers can directly access the largest concentration of networks in the country without worrying about the link to Madrid. This new POP is part of ESpanix's growth strategy, which reinforces its position as the largest digital hub in Southern Europe and increasingly represents the most effective tool for minimizing the cost and latency of the networks that make up the Internet. #interconnection #Spain #Catalonia
