Are you a student or graduate with a connection to North Wales? We want to hear from you! Darogan Talent is working on a research project to better understand perceptions of graduate opportunities and where there are may be gaps in the support available for students and graduates. If you've lived in the area, or studied there, or perhaps you're just interested in a career in that part of Wales, it would be great to get your perspective. It's a simple survey, which you can easily get through within a few minutes, and you will be entered into a prize draw for £100! The link to the survey is in the comments. If you have students or graduates in your network, please share if you can!

Last week we had the privilege of attending a Future Talk event hosted by The Smith Family at Manor Lakes College. The event was designed to give Year 10 students exposure to a range of industries as part of National Careers Week. What I loved about this event is that it was framed around story telling. We told our career stories and why we love what we do to small groups of students, who then had the opportunity to ask us questions about our chosen career path and industry. Each group of students rotated through 15 different industries from construction to agriculture to Vic Police. The best question I was asked was ‘how did you manage money when you first started working and what advice or support did you get to understand how to manage money?’. I think this highlights that there’s a role for schools and unis to play in helping students understand how the world works and basic life skills that they may not learn at home. Hopefully we sparked some interest in students studying Construction Management! #careers #construction #storytelling

When the problems arise, the crisis will let us know who you really are 🌊 Everybody believes when things are going up and the way it makes us happy. But when it goes negative, it confirms who they really are. It's often said that adversity doesn't build character, it reveals it. When things are going smoothly, it's easy to maintain a positive demeanor and get along with others. However, during challenging times, true personalities, resilience, and the capacity to handle stress and uncertainty come to the forefront. This can be true in many aspects of life, whether in personal relationships, professional environments, or even in how people manage their finances during economic downturns. It’s in these moments of crisis that individuals and organizations show their true strength and values.

Career talk with 4th-8th graders from Socorro ISD was a success! What was made clear is that it’s crucial to start discussing the range of opportunities available to students, especially in fields that will be vital in the coming decades. Given the rapidly evolving job market, especially with the rise of green jobs and roles focused on climate and sustainability, it’s clear that today’s students need to be aware of these emerging fields. The workforce of the future will not only require technical expertise but also a broad range of skills and perspectives, including those focused on thought leadership, policy, and justice. Integrating discussions about climate and technology careers into career showcases can help prepare students for these future opportunities. It’s also essential to emphasize the importance of diversity in these fields, as marginalized communities often face the greatest challenges from climate change and thus have a vital role in shaping solutions and policies. After Saturday's career showcase, it was made apparent that Peek Counsel can play a pivotal role in developing a climate career pipeline for students in our community, for our voices are needed more than ever in those spaces.

It was fantastic to attend the #CIMA Career Confidence event at Lancaster University last week, with a panel of experts sharing their experiences on advancing their careers in Finance. Although the advice given was for finance professionals, as a recruiter I took so much away from it that will help me in guiding the professionals I speak to every day. Here were some key takeaways: ⭐️ Show your personality through your CV. Consider how have you added value to businesses you have worked at through your passion projects. ⭐️ If you’ve joined a business and realised it’s not the right match for you, then have the courage to walk away, and find the role that is. ⭐️ Be curious. Build your knowledge through asking questions of those around you. ⭐️ Embrace technology. The roles within Finance are constantly changing with the advancement of software, and it’s best to lean into it and learn to utilise what’s available. Thank you Karen Young FCICM for chairing the panel, and giving confidence to audience to ask insightful questions, and to the panel for their advice - John-Paul Yates, Laura H., Steve Harrop, Richard Kenworthy and Catherine Humphreys, and Sue Hurrell for organising.

Problem: Data Centers are Ruining Loudoun County. This is the public relations/reputation problem Jennifer Andos and Sharon L. Wright from Loud & Clear Marketing, LLC presented students with at the Loudoun County Public Schools Job for a Day. Having both worked on McDonald's, Jennifer & Sharon started the day sharing the story of what Marketing, re-Branding, and PR strategies Mickey D's did to recover their lost market share following the "Supersize Me" movie. Modeling McDonald's reputation campaign, the students brainstormed strategies to fix the data center reputation problem. Working with these students – Loudoun residents – they developed multiple actionable ideas that would support a beautiful public relations/marketing campaign that would help reshape the image of data centers. We believe in the work data centers do & the positive impacts for Virginia. This is a campaign that WE have been wanting to do. We think change is possible & we were on to something. After this, we know we are. Let's do this! Who's in? Seriously. Send us message & let Paperfish Creative change the narrative around here! #heartsandminds #datacenters #PRproblem #studentsrock
