Moving Beyond the “Button Pusher” Label: Championing Radiation Safety Radiographers face real challenges in practice—limited input on imaging requests, overlooked expertise in reducing unnecessary radiation, and marginalization in interdisciplinary decisions. At the Ekurhuleni Research Conference, I addressed these issues, emphasizing that advocating for radiation safety is key to overcoming them. By voicing concerns, educating peers and patients, and asserting our expertise, radiographers can ensure patient safety remains central to imaging practices. Let’s lead these conversations, elevate our profession, and reinforce our role as vital contributors to healthcare. #RadiationSafety #Radiography #Leadership #PatientAdvocacy

Celebrating National Radiologic Technology Week®: Honoring RTs and Promoting Professional Growth National Radiologic Technology Week® (NRTW) is here, and it's more than just a celebration—it's a time to acknowledge the critical role Radiologic Technologists (RTs) play in patient care and healthcare safety. From X-rays to CT scans, the work RTs do is often the unseen backbone of diagnosis and treatment. It’s a powerful reminder that these experts are essential in helping clinicians see and understand what lies beneath the surface. The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) has partnered with the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) to sponsor a free webinar on Nov. 4. This event offers RTs a unique opportunity to deepen their expertise, earn a continuing education credit, and continue driving forward in their careers. Here’s a quick breakdown of the key initiatives discussed: 1. Professional Development for #RadiologicTechnologists Continuing education is not just a requirement—it’s a cornerstone of professional excellence. By sponsoring this free ASRT Live webinar, ARRT emphasizes the importance of ongoing learning in this field. The topics covered are carefully curated to expand knowledge, reinforce best practices, and address current industry trends. Especially as the technology within radiology rapidly evolves, such educational opportunities are invaluable for RTs to stay at the forefront. 2. Flexibility Through Recorded Content The recorded webinar will be accessible anytime on the ASRT store, offering RTs flexibility to learn at their own pace. This flexibility is essential in a profession where many practitioners work long, irregular hours. Accessible, on-demand education ensures RTs don’t have to compromise between job responsibilities and professional growth. 3. Achieving CE Credits Easily Radiologic Technologists are required to earn continuing education credits to maintain their certifications. With this webinar, RTs can obtain one credit by simply participating live or watching the recording and completing a quick quiz. This efficient approach to earning credits supports RTs in maintaining their certifications without adding extra stress to their schedules. Each initiative reflects a deep commitment to the ongoing growth and support of Radiologic Technologists. As we celebrate NRTW, let’s recognize not only the incredible work RTs do each day but also the organizations working behind the scenes to support their journey of learning and development. #nrtw #nrtw2024 #continuingeducation #radiologictechnologist #xray

In Case You Missed It! Last Thursday, November 21, we held an insightful webinar: “C-RAD Patient Positioning and Motion Management for Improving Operational Efficiency While Delivering Accurate Treatments” with two industry experts Luis A. Muñoz, Senior Medical Physicist, and Rebecca Edwards, Radiation Therapist Unit Leader, both from GenesisCare, Australia. We’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to share how C-RAD technology addresses daily anatomical surface variation and perfectly matches treatment planning reference surfaces with dynamic live surfaces, without the need to define any subjective regions of interest. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion! For those who couldn’t make it - or if you’d like to revisit the session, we’ve got you covered. We’re providing access to the full recording to ensure you don’t miss out on the valuable insights. So vital - the quality images, positioning and skill from these two can turn unresectable to resectable, or an incomplete margin to a cure....and the stuff they do for Gerard Mclauchlan and his team in IR is next level. Cheers to you both!
On World Radiography Day, we are grateful to our excellent team of Sharyn Bray and Stanley Pearce, both human-trained radiographers who made the (sensible) move to image patients with 4 legs not 2. Whether overseeing CT scans, contrast injector pumps, lymphangiograms, CT-fluoroscopy, radiography, the C-arm and IR procedures, we keep them busy! Their hard work and images allow the clinicians to always do their best for their patients. #AURAVeterinary #WorldRadiographyDay #innovationinhealthcare
