America Europe Fund’s Post

The Race for Critical Minerals is On! In response to supply chain vulnerabilities linked to sourcing critical minerals, EU and US legislators have begun formulating economic security strategies, such as reshoring (or nearshoring), building mining capacity of critical minerals, promoting fair working conditions and securing sufficient critical minerals to facilitate the green transition. In November 2023, the EU introduced the provisional Critical Raw Minerals Act, which aims to balance its core values with its economic ambitions, as defined by the EU Green Deal. In contrast, the US introduced its revised Critical Minerals List, which identifies 50 materials that exhibit supply chain vulnerabilities and thus are deemed strategically important to produce clean energy technologies. In light of these commonalities between the EU and the US, they have agreed to open negotiations for a proposed Critical Minerals Agreement in March 2023 and further policy dialogue through the Trade and Technology Council. To help us understand the current policy landscape and the prospects of a transatlantic critical minerals agreement, we will be joined by Eduardo Castellet Nogués (CEPA) and Micol Bertolini (AmCham EU). Join us on Monday @ 16 PM (CEST) in this insightful discussion!  Link to register: https://lnkd.in/d8NCGd6Y
