Imagine a world where women hold only 0.8% of leadership positions in the top companies of a major economy. 🌎 Hard to believe, right? Yet, according to a recent report from Kyodo News, that’s the reality in Japan, where just 13 out of 1,600 companies on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Prime Market are led by female CEOs. It’s frustrating to see this in 2024, but it also highlights a massive opportunity for women to rise as leaders in their fields. While the path to leadership is often tough, especially for women, it’s on us to create the change we want to see. The more I see studies like this, the more convinced I am that my upcoming book with Wiley is crucial. It’s time to establish a new normal, where incredible women leaders step up and create lasting positive impact. I truly believe that women have everything it takes to lead—and it begins with recognizing that within themselves. This is such an impactful short video responding to a question by Sarah O'Carroll to our newly appointed Governor General Sam Mostyn. In my experience conversations can make or break any situation. Having been for many years early in my life as more of a talker, rather than a listener it’s been a big lesson in have learnt. There is a brilliant book How To Listen by Oscar Trimboli, this book is brilliant for communication in the workplace. I highly recommend as a resource in your workplace library Another valuable book is Crucial Conversations by Stephen M. R. Covey, this has been my go to and saved many conversations. This time last week Sam Mostyn and I sat down at the Forbes Australia Women's Summit for a conversation on purpose, leadership and service. And while she might have downplayed a run at the top office.... today she has been appointed Governor General of Australia. Sam shared that day: “Find your voice. Trust your voice and then use your voice with your confidence and your own authentic self” No better person for the job. Congratulations Sam Mostyn!
