I love to share the knowledge across our industry in hopes that we can break a lot of the silos! Collaborate and share the knowledge. Working in a academic teaching institution we are always educating one another. When I teach it allows me to validate my own understanding and allows me to continue to learn when questions are asked that I don’t know the answer to. That eventually then results in me going to sleep late every night as the research begins and tangents off in multiple directions activating different hemispheres of the brain and eventually that research ends up somewhere completely different to where I started but It ultimately concludes with me learning something I didn’t know! #sterileprocessing #healthcare #medicaldevices #waterquality

You know, there's something that's been bothering me lately.  It's this idea of letting every patient into our consult room without really checking if they're the right fit.  It's not just about us, it's about them too. Think about it this way—our time is valuable, right?  And if we're spending it with patients who might not benefit from our expertise… It's not gonna be fair to ANYONE.  It's like we're not giving them the best care we could provide! And beyond that, it's not really showing the integrity and dedication we have to our practice.  The truth is, we're not just here to see as many patients as possible… We're here to make a real difference in people's lives. So, what if we start being a bit more selective about who we see?  What if we take the time to really understand each patient's needs and ensure they're a good fit for us? I believe it's not just about being the best doctors we can be — it's also about treating every patient with the respect and care they deserve. And by being more selective about the patients we accept… We're not only demonstrating integrity and dedication to our practice. We're also strategically positioning ourselves as the top choice for patients seeking exceptional healthcare. When it comes to our work as healthcare professionals, we absolutely feel resistance when our beliefs are different from others, but we set those aside to provide the best care possible. We try to create a space where everyone is heard and valued. We’re working to become even more inclusive by understanding how people want to receive healthcare, how to best communicate with them, and who the important people are in their lives, as well as what matters most to them. So, if you haven’t given yourself credit as a healthcare professional for that skill, or if you're receiving healthcare and aren’t quite sure how to express gratitude, remember this: your healthcare providers see you as the whole human being that you are. They aren’t imposing their beliefs on you; instead, they allow you and your beliefs, along with your vulnerabilities and strengths, to be fully present. Thank you, healthcare professionals, for your dedication and compassion. Somtimes the emotional work of setting your beliefs aside is what moral distress is when we have an understanding of what that is we can approach ourselves with the best self-care without judging ourselves or feeling like we’re bad professional or not giving the care we need and absolutely there are times where it does take intentionality to understand where we’re at.

I looking forward to Becker's 14th Annual Meeting April 8-11, 2024. I am excited to join moderator Mackenzie Bean on a panel with fellow healthcare leaders, Verghese Mathew, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I., David Levine, MD, and Carol Rozelle, DNP to discuss 'Prioritizing Patient Safety and Quality as Healthcare Evolves' on April 9. Quality and safety are paramount to a health system's strategic priorities and values. These strategic priorities and values must be central to the overall foundation of promoting clinical excellence, zero harm (high reliability), operational efficiency, and innovation. As a physician leader, I often speak about one of the reasons I became a physician was to provide the best care to heal and promote healthy lives, while doing "no harm". Although, quality and safety are more nuanced, this is simply what it means to drive quality and safety efforts in a health system. Looking ahead, the path forward for hospitals and health systems requires leaders to be the architects, builders, and catalysts that promote the collaborative change environments for innovation. Furthermore, we must reframe our analyses and efforts with an equity lens to advance quality so we can design strategies and interventions to meet patients where and how they engage and intersect with our health systems.
