In response to the new American Medical Association (AMA) article declaring “The AMA helped defeat more than 100 bills to expand nonphysician providers’ scope of practice in 2023” CSHP CEO, Loriann De Martini, PharmD, MPH, BCGP challenged the AMA's ideology on scope creep and encouraged them to acknowledge the education and expertise of health care professionals has evolved. My blog post about ACLM’s induction into the AMA House of Delegates and the champions of #lifestylemedicine who are leading the #houseofmedicine.
ACLM’s June 10th induction into the American Medical Association House of Delegates was a seminal achievement made possible by all those who have invested time, passion, and leadership in the College. ACLM Executive Director Susan Benigas wrote about her and Immediate Past-President Dr. Cate Collings’ experience at the induction and the unexpected lifestyle medicine champions they encountered there. Put patients over profits! The #340B Drug Pricing Program is critical because it allows qualifying hospitals and clinics to purchase some drugs at a discount. This program is designed to help safety-net healthcare providers stretch their resources to support more financially vulnerable patients, contributing to #health #equity and the sustainability of #essentialhospitals.
This morning our CEO, Bruce Siegel, had the opportunity to join a robust discussion about #340B at the National Medical Association's Colloquium on African American Health. Joined by 340B Health, the Alliance to Save America's 340B Program, the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), Scripps Health, and PhRMA, he explained how vital the program is to #EssentialHospitals and the communities they serve - but also how it supports Graduate Medical Education, #HealthEquity, and much more.

Now in print! - “Applying the Theory of Guided Participation to Clinical Practice” by RTS Director Emerita Dr. Rana Limbo and Dr. Karen Pridham This is the latest article from these two brilliant researchers who have spent 35+ years developing and advancing Dr. Pridham’s recently recognized Theory of Guided Participation (GP). The article illustrates assumptions of GP with clinical cases drawn from GP practice, and it discusses skills and supports needed for the practice and future directions for extending the method. It serves as a companion piece to “Guided Participation for Clinical Practice: A Middle-Range Theory of Teaching and Learning,” which was published last year. Central to our training and practice, GP distinguishes the RTS relationship-based, patient-centered approach. https://lnkd.in/guFMUcUE

With so many chronic conditions (and related health-care costs) tied to obesity, it’s no wonder that employers want a long-term solution for weight loss. When looking at a potential obesity-care program, make sure it has these three things for sustainable results: 1. Skill building: A good program has both intrinsic and extensive motivators to build long-lasting healthy habits. 3. Adaptive curriculum/support: Does the program change based on the participant’s needs, such as weight maintenance? 3. Long-term results: Can you expect the weight loss to last years later? Ask for peer-reviewed data to back it up. 4. Quick-fix solutions might be tempting, but they won’t deliver long-term clinical results and can ultimately drive-up health-care costs. The above factors can be a starting point to see if a weight-loss solution will be the right fit for the health of your people, and your organization. #obesity #employeewellness #wondrhealth
Losing weight is one thing but keeping it off is something else entirely. As our Chief Medical Officer, Tim Church, MD, MPH, PhD says, “The skills for losing weight are different from those to keep it off.” Roughly 80% of people gain back the weight they worked so hard to lose. Luckily, our Wondr program has science-backed methods to help our participants build life-long skills for long lasting health.

"𝑃𝐴𝐷 𝐺𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑘𝑒𝑒𝑝𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 2024" 𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 ℎ𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑝ℎ𝑦𝑠𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑛! Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is a silent threat, often overlooked in its early stages. The alarming rate of amputations due to PAD stems from a critical issue: patients are not being diagnosed early enough. Primary care physicians are frequently missing the textbook symptoms of leg pain and leg cramps, leading to misdiagnosis and delayed care. A startling statistic from the Global PAD Association reveals the extent of this problem: More than 70% of patients polled reported that upon initial presentation of textbook PAD symptoms, they were misdiagnosed with conditions such as: ✔️Diabetic neuropathy ✔️Sciatica/back issues ✔️Old age ✔️Fibromyalgia ✔️Arthritis These misdiagnoses significantly delay proper treatment for PAD, potentially leading to severe complications and unnecessary amputations. In light of this challenge, the Global PAD Association is taking action. As part of its 2024 PAD IMPACT AWARDS, the association is honoring a primary care physician who has demonstrated a proactive approach to PAD. This physician has shown exceptional commitment to: ✔️Raising awareness about PAD ✔️Actively working in the community for early diagnosis ✔️Contributing to the reduction of amputation rates 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 "𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫" 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝-𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐫.
