If you've ever wondered where the symbolism of the orange shirt started, listen to Phyllis Webstad's heartbreaking story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at a residential school. The orange shirts provide an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to reflect on the harmful legacy of the residential school system and the enduring impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities across Canada. For decades, Indigenous communities have shared their truths about the harm and trauma caused by residential schools. Now, it is our responsibility to listen, learn, and act. Reconciliation is not a one-day event but an ongoing commitment to change. It requires that we, as individuals and as communities, commit to creating a better future. We encourage everyone to reflect on the work happening in your own communities and consider what role you can play in this important on-going journey toward reconciliation. #NDTR #TruthAndReconciliation #EveryChildMatters https://lnkd.in/ga8VesfF
