The coveted unicorns🦄 I think the first problem to solve is: Who are they, exactly? ➡️What position(s) do they typically hold? ➡️What kind of companies do they work at? ➡️What stage of development is the company’s digital marketing strategy at? ➡️How often do they work with freelance writers? ➡️What kind of infrastructure do they have in place? What do they provide freelance writers? ➡️ What’s their communication style? ➡️What problems are they in charge of solving? ➡️How can you help make their job easier? These answers can be found out through research, experience, or chatting with other freelancer friends who are where you want to be. Once you know all this, you can both: ✅Update your marketing to speak directly to them (which helps them find you). ✅Reach out to them. Grow your network with the right people. Dear LinkedIn, I have a product idea for you to connect businesses and freelance writers on LinkedIn. Let's use social media to find freelance writers more work and help businesses with content needs. I posted a freelance writer need that my company has and, as of this morning, received over 315 responses (between comments on the post, DMs, and emails from those folks who figured out my work email and emailed me directly). I reviewed links to portfolios and samples of excellent work, and I think you need to create a tool that connects writers and businesses (of all sizes). Keep it simple. Create a simple searchable directory here on LI. Call it “Freelance Writers and Business Connection.” Writers can submit links to their portfolios and indicate their writing assignment preferences and expertise, and businesses can submit their writing needs and means of connection.
