🧿 Like a converging prism point, medical ethics is the intersection of medicine, the law, public health, science, the healthcare industry, education, the humanities, communication & technology. A dispersed wave of white light perceived 👀as a ✔️ROY.G.BIV continuous spectrum happens as the light changes direction along a transparent glass prism... What are initially perceived as *universal moral tenets* accepted at face value, are actually dynamic intersecting assumptions, core values & ethical principles underpinning our freedoms & the dignity of human beings... By publicly advocating for core values like fairness, compassion, integrity, empathy, stewardship & professionalism in our day to day conversations-- we promote our communication community-standard. Values & principles in clinical practice 'help us bend & direct light along wavelength-dependent paths that can be perceived as visible &/or audible,' instead of 'lost in interpretation.' Medical ethics principles like: autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence & social justice enable communication, & especially when ethical dilemmas interfere with desired outcomes. To grow sustainable socially just systems, we need to engage in conversations about who unilaterally benefits & who assumes risks for the collective-- while minding race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, disability & religion as perceived wavelengths of visible light... #medicalethics #clinicalethics #mededucation #communication #transparency #lacmalacba #communitystandards #thehastings https://lnkd.in/gaQSj6yS

60 years ago the Declaration of Helsinki was adopted. It was the first set of international ethical principles guiding medical research involving human participants and is regarded as the most important document in the history of research ethics. To keep up with the changing medical research landscape and the evolving global ethical challenges, revisions of several revisions to the declaration have been made in the past. Recently, the World Medical Association (WMA) has announced the adoption of the 2024 revision of the Declaration of Helsinki. Besides a modernized language, it has introduced impactful changes regarding the group of vulnerable populations and emphasized the importance of patient-centric research designs. ➡️ See more https://ow.ly/oNh350TT5B4

This contrast between the beneficence model and the autonomy model reflects a significant shift in medical ethics. The beneficence model centers on the physician making decisions in the best interests of the patient, prioritizing medical outcomes over patient preferences. In contrast, the autonomy model respects patients' right to make decisions based on their values and beliefs, even if it means refusing treatment or accepting death. This ethical tension prompts crucial questions about healthcare providers' role in balancing patient autonomy with professional guidance. Would you like to explore how these models apply in specific medical contexts, such as end-of-life care
