The Erzgebirge represents one of the most important metallogenic provinces in Europe and was mined for various metals (i.e. Ag, Sn, U) over centuries. All #mining activities were abandoned in the early 1990s, but recent technological and geopolitical developments have brought the Erzgebirge back into the focus of the raw material sector. The leucogranite hosted greisen deposit Zinnwald, historically mined for Sn and W, was systematically explored between 1945 and 1989. Despite the massive presence of the #lithium mica Zinnwaldite, its raw material potential remained unused. The combination of legacy data and results of recent exploration (2012-2019) demonstrates that the deposit hosts significant Li resources (35.5 Mt averaging 3,500 ppm Li) and thus has the potential to contribute substantially to the domestic production of #Germany. Eclipse Metals Limited (ASX:EPM) has conducted an extensive HyperXRF (x-ray fluorescent) assessment of historical drill core from the Grønnedal prospect within the Ivigtût Project of Greenland, confirming extensive, deep-seated #RareEarthElement (REE) mineralisation. The company has extrapolated that data over the outcropping 3-kilometre by 800-metre area of ferrocarbonatite at the prospect, to a depth of 50 metres, producing a conceptual exploration target of between 175 and 245 million tonnes of REE mineralisation. Eclipse has noted high #neodymium levels in six of the historical diamond drilled cores assessed, which also demonstrated consistently high neodymium ratios from surface to at least 200 metres of depth. #Pyrrhotite is a sulfide mineral with the formula Fe(1-x)S, where x can vary, indicating a range of iron deficiencies in its structure. It typically forms in igneous and metamorphic environments, particularly in association with mafic and ultramafic rocks. Pyrrhotite is often found in hydrothermal veins, where it crystallizes from sulfur-rich fluids at elevated temperatures. Additionally, it can form in sedimentary environments, especially in anoxic conditions, where iron is available to react with sulfur, leading to its precipitation. It commonly occurs alongside #pentlandite, #chalcopyrite, and other sulfide minerals in nickel and #copper deposits. The presence of pyrrhotite in these deposits can also suggest the temperature and pressure conditions during mineralization, as it typically forms at higher temperatures compared to other sulfides. Pyrrhotite has notable economic significance, particularly in the mining of nickel and copper. It is often a byproduct of these metals and can also contain trace amounts of precious metals like gold and platinum. The presence of pyrrhotite in ore deposits can affect the processing and extraction methods used, as it can influence the behavior of other sulfide minerals during flotation. Additionally, pyrrhotite is studied for its magnetic properties, which can have applications in geophysical exploration and environmental studies, making it an important mineral in both economic and scientific contexts. This quartz vein was formed during a hydrothermal event associated with a magmatic intrusion. The chalcopyrite indicates the potential existence of economically significant copper mineralization. At our Brabant-McKenzie (BMK) Deposit in Saskatchewan, we recently identified a new zone of precious metals mineralization. Assays from a previously unsampled interval situated below the lower zone of VMS mineralization returned grades up to 7.17 g/t Gold, 663 g/t Silver and 4.57%. We are currently planning additional re-sampling to confirm the size and grade of the Gold-rich zone. John Shmyr, VP Exploration at Murchison Minerals stated: "Findings from the Study demonstrate the continuation of prospective lithological and alteration assemblages along the 37 km BMK Trend, indicating the geological setting is right to host additional VMS deposits. Additionally, the new precious metals discovery at the BMK Deposit is extremely exciting and has the potential to add significant value to future resource updates. The Company is planning a robust relogging and resampling program on all off its historic drill holes at the BMK Deposit. Ophir Metals Corp. mobilizes for sampling at HW3 Lithium-Cesium Pegmatite Ophir Metals Corp. has announced the mobilization of crews to conduct a channel sampling program at the HW3 Lithium-Cesium Pegmatite, part of the Pilipas Lithium Property located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Quebec. Bastion Minerals Limited Strikes High-Grade Rare Earths and Copper in Sweden (ASX: BMO) Ross Landles, Executive Chairman of Bastion Minerals, commented on the results: “We are pleased to have received the laboratory assays, which confirm the tenor of the pXRF results we announced earlier this month. These show elevated REE or copper across most samples, with values up to 8.3% REE+Y and 5.1% copper. Importantly, the results show high concentrations of heavy REE in some samples, and a general enrichment in magnetic REE’s Nd, Pr, Dy and Tb.” “These results confirm the high-grade nature of the project and support our intention to carry out a detailed ground magnetic survey over the 3 km REE trend and area of elevated copper, to define drill targets, once the magnetic survey is interpreted. This is an excellent research that provides insights on the recovery of metals from waste rocks and tailings. Geological, geochemical and metallurigcal asessment of rock wastes and tailings discharged by Ok Tedi copper-gold, Porgera gold (-silver), Hidden Valley gold (silver), K92 gold-silver-copper (-tellurium), Lihir gold and Simberi gold mines may provide insights on level and recovery of metals deemed uneconomical.
