Several factors influence this decision: - Storage space: Physical capacity of your warehouse or storage facility. - Demand variability: Fluctuations in customer demand. Higher variability warrants higher maximum inventory. - Lead time: Time taken for replenishment after ordering. Longer lead times require higher safety stock and hence, higher maximum inventory. - Carrying costs: Expenses incurred for holding inventory (e.g., storage, insurance, obsolescence). Higher costs push for lower maximum inventory. - Capital investment: Money tied up in inventory. High investment encourages lower maximum inventory. - Product perishability/obsolescence: Products prone to spoilage or becoming outdated necessitate lower maximum inventory.
