I'm happy to share our publication in the International Journal of Thermal Sciences. It is available at https://lnkd.in/gJuqFR5S as open access article. This manuscript presents a thorough literature review of concurrent flame spread models over combustible solids and their assumptions. The review classifies model approaches based on their inherent assumptions and sub-models to describe the complexity of the problem. It was shown that the chosen modeling complexity to simulate flame spread over a vertical continuous solid, one of the simplest configurations, varied markedly in the reviewed literature. These variations were not limited to the selected method or category but also affected the assumptions within a proposed method by different authors. While complex modeling approaches may be necessary to adequately represent complex phenomena such as flame spread, the impact of uncertainties associated with the additional inputs is not always quantified or justified.
