#SafeSupportedHealthWorkers are the backbone of gender-responsive resilient health systems and are essential to achieving health equity and delivering primary care. Our Global Affairs Canada-supported AHADI project in Tanzania is ensuring health workers are equipped with the skills and resources to assess and treat sexual and gender-based violence. After completing the training, health workers are now using action plans with SGBV response checklists, ensuring that survivors receive compassionate gender-responsive care and collecting evidence for legal support. https://bit.ly/3PFHM6w #WHWWeek

Two weeks ago, Integrate Health and our partners at Last Mile Health published a framework for action to achieve gender equity in community health. To me, this framework codifies learnings from my experience working with communities in Togo and Guinea: when we design solutions with women at the center, outcomes improve for everyone. Since the framework went live, I've been energized by the engagement we've received - partners asking questions and inviting deeper, context-specific conversations. We're making progress; let's keep moving the work from a framework --> to action. 

Today, 21 March 2024 marks National Human Right's Day. As enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, everyone has the right to have access to health care services, including reproductive health and no one may be refused emergency medical treatment. Health is therefore a basic human right assured by the Constitution. I am thrilled by the momentum to scale up of professional Community Health Workers. But I also hold a deep-seated fear that we are not doing enough to support women #CHWs. They represent 70% of the workforce and face unique and persistent challenges. But we can design to mitigate those barriers. PLEASE read, share and use this framework.
