I found that everyone with a mild cough or cold these days is getting anxious. With the outbreak of coronavirus, a number of rumours have been circulating online and offline. Debunking some myths here:- Myth 1: Coronavirus caused by people eating bats/snakes Likely but Unconfirmed. There is no evidence on cause while possibility of it being true can’t be ruled out. Some of first cases have been linked to seafood market in Wuhan, China. It likely originated in some animal and jumped to a human. Myth 2: A vaccine already exists There is NO vaccine. However, Chinese scientists quickly identified genetic sequence of new coronavirus and posted it publicly within few days so that scientific research teams get to work right away. Myth 3: _____ number of people affected A wide range of numbers are floating as rumours from 3000 to even 90000. China reports much lesser number officially. Likely that figures are underestimated to control fear psychosis. Likelier that nobody has accurate figure on extent of damage. Myth 4: Pets spread it As per World Health Organization (WHO), there is no evidence yet of the same even though it recommends washing hands after contact with pets. Stay calm. Be healthy.
