Abuses have been repeated on the scene for decades, and the use of judges as a tool of revenge is one of them. Awafi addresses this "as part of the project to shed light on legal violations in Sudan", and in this report we address more with a focus on eastern Sudan. You can read the report from the link below. Committing violations by using the judiciary has been repeated in the scene across decades. Happy to share with you a one hour discussion on #Turkiye’s initiative to mediate between #Sudan’s gov & the #UAE on #Aljazeera Mubahser. In this particular part, I argued that media squabbling & mutual accusations between the UAE & Sudan’s gov is part of the problem that #Turkiye needs to address by taking the issue to behind closed doors negotiations to make sure its mediation efforts succeed. I noted that such effort is usually not easy & takes time, however if Turkiye manages to secure the cooperation of both sides, it will ultimately facilitate its mission. I also underlined that there are several challenges to #Ankara’s role in this case but if the two sides showed willingness to solve the issue, then Ankara’s task will move forward. I highlighted that the balance of power tilted lately to the Sudanese gov, arguing that no one should have an interest in supporting the losing side as everyone will benefit from stability and security in Sudan. More than 300,000 Palestinians return to northern Gaza on Monday — officials It is unclear how many Gazans plan to return CAIRO, January 27/ More than 300,000 Palestinians took the opportunity to return to northern Gaza on Monday, the Gaza Media Authority said in a statement. "Today, more than 300,000 people returned north from the enclave's southern and central regions, traveling along the Ar-Rashid and Salah al-Din roads," it said on Telegram. It is unclear how many Gazans plan to return to northern Gaza. Israel allowed Palestinians to return to the northern Gaza after officials received confirmation that Israeli national Arbel Yehud, who was to have been released by Hamas along with a second group of hostages on January 25 under the terms of a ceasefire deal, was alive. She is expected to return home on January 30, along with soldier Agam Berger and another abductee whose name has not yet been released. Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said on January 15 that thanks to the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement to hold a ceasefire in Gaza and release hostages held in the enclave. During the 42-day first phase of the deal, Hamas will release 33 hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners from Israeli custody. #business #finance #financialservices

If you missed, here's my interview with #BBC Focus on Africa on the executions in Somalia. This week, Amnesty International published its annual report on the global executions. In Sub-Saharan Africa, Amnesty International recorded death sentences in 14 countries. Compared to 2022, there were increases in recorded death sentences in the following countries: Cameroon (0 to 1); Ethiopia (2 to 3); Ghana (7 to 10); Kenya (79 to 131); Mali (8 to 13); Niger (4 to 8); Nigeria (77 to 246); Somalia (10 to 31); and Zimbabwe (0 to 3). In Somalia, the stark and very concerning reality is the lack of due process for people sentenced to the death penalty. Almost all such sentences are carried out by military courts. The country is fragmented politically and each region has its own separate court that carries execution. LISTEN THE PROGRAM (from minute 11.35) https://lnkd.in/e9vAiMyr

Where Did We Miss It? Lessons from Europe's Moral Decadence: As we witness the growing challenges of moral decay in Europe, particularly its impact on children, it’s imperative we pause and reflect. The erosion of traditional values, unchecked media influence, and lack of parental guidance have left children vulnerable to a world devoid of ethical anchors. In Nigeria, we must learn from these missteps. Strengthening family values, fostering community accountability, and emphasizing value-based education are key. Parents, educators, and policymakers must prioritize guiding our youth with empathy, discipline, and responsibility. Let us safeguard the moral fabric of our society before the cracks deepen. The future of our children depends on the steps we take today. What actionable steps can we implement now to avoid this trend? Let’s discuss, "make we yarn" #ChildrenFirst #ValuesMatter #Nigeria

We will not stand by and watch any individual or leader destroy this country for their selfish interests. Nigeria does not belong to political officeholders who only care about their personal gains it belongs to the people Even if the DSS targets us, we remain unshaken. Our fight is for the lives of Nigerians, for peace, and for a future where everyone can live comfortably. The lives of our people are far more valuable than the greed of those in power. Let me make it clear: we will defend Nigeria and Nigerians and its integrity at all costs. No amount of oppression or intimidation will silence us. Our mission is to protect Nigeria, its people, and its future from those who seek to exploit it for their selfish ambitions. We will never surrender. Nigeria’s progress and the well-being of its people are worth more than anything else. Engr Ishaq Mohammed 30/12/2024
