🌟 Passionate about Mental Health Care 🌟 May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, and it's time for us to come together and acknowledge the importance of mental health in our lives. At QLER Telepsychiatry (pronounced like Clear), we are committed to providing the very best virtual psychiatry services to individuals of all ages, conditions, and locations. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to ensure that everyone has access to the mental health care they deserve. We partner with hospitals nationwide to offer intuitive and timely virtual psychiatric consultations to patients seeking emergency care in local Emergency Rooms. Our Doctors quickly identify whether patients can be confidently discharged with medication management or if inpatient treatment is necessary. We also provide inpatient rounding and supervision, ensuring that individuals receive the comprehensive care they require. But our dedication doesn't stop there. We believe that mental health care should be accessible to all, regardless of their circumstances. That's why we have developed a unique clinic model, where we collaborate with community behavioral health professionals to extend our services and reach even more individuals who may otherwise lack access to crucial mental health resources. In these challenging times, it's essential to remember that seeking help is a sign of strength and courage. Let's break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage open-mindedness when it comes to seeking support. Together, we can create a society that values and prioritizes mental well-being. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #BreakTheStigma #QLERTelepsychiatry #MentalHealthMatters

Sometimes, a gut feeling can save a life. When a Covenant Health nurse followed up with a geriatric patient, she sensed something was wrong. Acting on her instincts, she made a home visit—and found herself in a life-or-death situation. This experience inspired our Community Geriatric Psychiatry team to take action, launching enhanced suicide risk assessment training and policy reviews. These changes are equipping healthcare staff with the tools, knowledge and confidence they need to better support seniors facing mental health challenges. From immersive simulations to improved collaboration, this is how we're setting a new standard in community mental health care. 👉 Read the full story: https://bit.ly/4fHn944

"I'm going to give you the standard of care that 99 out of 100 psychiatrists would provide. But I will also tell you why I would be that 1 out of 100 to recommend not following it." As healthcare providers, we're required to offer "standard care," but have you ever felt that following it blindly might cause more harm than good? I say this phrase over and over because I’ve seen the power of giving people the full truth. This approach has not only freed my practice but has also fostered trust, empowered families, and led to genuine healing. I've seen it de-escalate crises and lift people up during a low moment. When parents consider calling 911, sending their child to the ER, or accepting a diagnosis that might shadow them for life, they deserve to know all the risks, benefits, and alternatives—without fear, bias, or half-truths. That is the heart of full informed consent, and it’s a practice that can transform your work, too. Join me in this free webinar to learn how offering transparency and building trust can dismantle harm, promote equity, and redefine mental healthcare for marginalized communities. 🗓️ Friday, December 13th 🕒 3:00 PM EST | 12:00 PM PST 🎙️ Featuring (me!) Dr. Rupi Legha, Double-Board Certified Psychiatrist & Antiracism Educator This event is designed for providers who want to move beyond the script and embrace practices that truly prioritize patient well-being. 💻 Register here: https://lnkd.in/gsV93AVM Let’s reimagine mental healthcare together. #psychiatrist #psychiatrists #psychologist #psychologists #socialworker #socialworkers #LMFT #LMFTs #doctor #doctors #childpsychiatrist #childpsychiatrists

In today’s psychiatric landscape, we are witnessing a concerning trend: the emergence of bourgeois psychiatry that primarily caters to those who can afford premium-quality patient care. This creates a divide where effective mental health services are increasingly seen as a luxury rather than a fundamental right. The reality is that quality patient care should be a function of effective policy, not just financial resources. We cannot rely on cozy clubhouse wards or exclusive treatment centers to address the mental health crisis. True progress in psychiatric practice demands a systemic overhaul that prioritizes accessibility and equity in care for all individuals, regardless of their socioeconomic status. We must advocate for policies that ensure comprehensive mental health services are available to everyone, emphasizing that effective mental health care is a societal obligation—not just a privilege for the affluent. It’s time to push for a more inclusive and equitable approach to psychiatric care that benefits all members of society.

In 2024, the American Psychiatry Association, published the results of a cross-sectional, "loneliness survey". The results were alarming. 1 out of 3 adults experienced loneliness! https://lnkd.in/dE3qJNSi Let me remind you here, that loneliness should not be muddled up with "solitude", because solitude is one's choice to remain aloof, to rejuvenate mentally or physically, solitude can be therapy, and for some it is sheer bliss. Loneliness, however, is being alone circumstantially, when you really have no dear and near ones to share your life with, on a daily basis. What makes this piece of research really scary, is that loneliness is never stand-alone. It never exists in a sialo. It has ramifications, deleterious ones. Depression, anxiety, fear, insecurity, substance abuse, dietary neglect and a whole lot of burnout-like symptoms accompany loneliness, albeit not manifesting for a long time, but hidden behind the loner's resilience. Loneliness cannot be seen, cannot be heard and hence, often gets neglected or dismissed. It's abstract. It's not diabetes that gets measured on a tangible test. And that's what makes it elusive. And the loner suffers for long, often with little or no help. This survey is a wake up call for all to look around sensitively for friends, neighbours, colleagues and family who might be lonely. Lets keep our antennas on. There may be a lonely soul out there, languishing in mental agony with a fake, plastic smile pasted on their face. Can we look beyond this facade? #Americanpsychiatricassociation #loneliness #GenZ #mentalhealth #depression #anxiety #clinicalpsychology #healthsurvey #Indiahealth #pharma #hospitals #healthcare

Insights from Demystifying Medication: Depression and Anxiety Medication Considerations with Black Women. Early Intervention is the Best Intervention - Individual and systemic barriers can delay medication initiation and prolong symptoms and suffering: 1. We need to feel motivated and ready to start medication 2. Finding and contacting a psychiatrist that accepts our insurance or is within our budget 3. Scheduling an appointment; some psychiatrists may have weeks-long waits and extensive waitlist 4. Covering the cost of medication 5. Some medications take 4-6 weeks for treatment effects to be noticed Thank you Iman Hypolite, MD - The SoftLife MD for sharing these insights and encouraging mental health professionals to refer to psychiatry sooner rather than later. #handbookoncounselingblackwomen #counselingblackwomen #medicationmanagement #demystifyingmedication #blackwomenswellness

Psychiatric diagnoses play a crucial role in classifying conditions with shared characteristics, facilitating communication among professionals and guiding treatment strategies. However, the act of labeling individuals with specific diagnoses can yield unintended consequences, stemming from the personal and societal connotations associated with these labels. I argue here that psychiatric diagnoses should be employed with caution and transparency. It is imperative to acknowledge the provisional and hypothetical nature of these diagnoses, recognizing that they are constructs based on current understanding, which is subject to change as the field of psychiatry evolves. By maintaining an open dialogue about the limitations and uncertainties inherent in psychiatric diagnoses, we can mitigate the potential for stigma and support a more nuanced understanding of mental health
