From a legislative and regulatory perspective, the topics I spend the most time talking about and working on are EV charging reliability and the driver experience (think payments, UI/UX). I couldn't be more excited about the launch of our new A400 and the impact that it will have on both. We've all heard about the 97% minimum uptime standard. ABB E-mobility is reaching for more in this next generation of chargers and SLAs with a targeted 99% charging success rate. This gets to the heart of reliability for drivers, as opposed to "checking an uptime box." Many of my conversations on charger reliability often lead to a discussion on payments and how frustrating it can be for drivers to successfully pay for and initiate a charging session. An extensive study of 20,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations highlights several issues with the current infrastructure. Key problems include broken stalls, inaccurate status reports, and unreliable network providers. The actual uptime of chargers is significantly lower than reported, with 26% of stations showing discrepancies between perceived and actual status. The study identifies various types of problematic stations, such as "ghost" and "zombie" chargers, and notes significant regional variations in charger reliability. **Wireless BMS** Wireless BMS incorporates wireless communication technologies such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for data transmission and control. It provides the advantage of eliminating the need for physical wiring connections between the BMS and the battery pack or other devices. Wireless BMS allows for remote monitoring, diagnostics, and control, enhancing convenience and flexibility. It is commonly used in applications where physical connections are challenging, such as electric vehicles or distributed energy storage systems. However, wireless BMS may introduce additional complexity in terms of data security, reliability in harsh environments, and power consumption.
