A survey by Lex Autolease indicates that fleets are accelerating their electrification efforts, with expectations to exclusively operate battery electric vehicles (BEVs) within four years, despite the government's extension of the petrol and diesel ban to 2035. The report reveals that 86% of fleets have maintained or increased their number of EVs in the past year, with fleet managers expecting a transition to pure electric fleets within an average of four years, down from seven years previously. While progress is evident, barriers to EV adoption persist, with fleet managers seeking additional government support to address challenges such as charging infrastructure availability and investment incentives. With EPRI’s #EV2Scale2030 initiative, fleet operators, power companies, and vehicle manufacturers are working closely together to share essential data for a smooth EV transition. With tools such as eRoadMAP, power companies and fleet operators can visualize and communicate projected grid loads to anticipate charging demands. Already, partners such as Volvo Trucks, Daimler Truck AG, Amazon, Enterprise and others have collaborated on eRoadMAP. And a new tool, GridFAST, is set to launch in 2025 to help streamline the service request process between fleets and electric providers. With electric trucks globally growing in popularity, commercial fleets are expected to make up two-thirds of the EV market's total by 2030. Charging truck fleets is an entirely different game than charging electric passenger cars, and it’s crucial to have the right infrastructure in place. We, in partnership with Kempower, have identified three main types of charging scenarios that heavy-duty trucks are likely to encounter. Each scenario requires a different charging solution: - Overnight charging: Perfect for fleets with a predictable schedule, allowing trucks to recharge while they are not in use. - Destination charging: Ideal for trucks that have specific destinations and can charge while loading/unloading or during driver breaks. - On-the-move charging: Best for long-haul routes where trucks need to recharge quickly to stay on the road longer. Last month, we asked our followers where they stand when it comes to the transition to EV ⚡🔌   Our results show a significant percentage have already made the switch to electric.
