Teleworking saves both companies and people. It boosts creativity by at least 50%. On top of this, taxes should go down on that basis, especially for startups and SMEs as they are the only future of Europe. If the European Commission does not increase the funding and equal opportunities for teleworking, and cannot enable its citizens to work from wherever, whenever and of course tax them less as an incentive, we will have big companies making the return of investment and small companies not being able to survive. Anything but teleworking is in fact a form of slavery. Productivity does not equate to onsite employment. It does not equate with physical presence. In fact, Digital Europe means that If I am a European citizen, I can have a permanent residence but work from any part of Europe I want. That way you can invest in your people; increase their rates and salaries as in the end of the day they will be working more than a 9-5 schedule. And on that basis, you should tax them less. #teleworking #future #digitalisation #officesnolongerneeded #digitaloffices European Commission ludci
60% of people like to work from home for at least part of the week. Are you one of them? While telework brings many opportunities, there is a risk of an ‘always-on' culture. It’s time to ensure workers’ rights and well-being are prioritised in this digital age. That’s why this week we launched the first-stage consultation of European social partners on fair telework and the right to disconnect. The consultation with employer organisations and trade unions will allow us to make sure that EU rules promote their autonomy and do not stand in the way of companies and workers who agree to teleworking. Telework brings many opportunities to the world of work, but also some challenges. While it can allow for flexible work arrangements, it also raises questions on how to ensure workers' rights are respected in a more digitalised work environment. This includes ensuring adequate working conditions and health and safety at work. Notably, the use of digital tools for work and the possibility to work remotely can carry the risk of an ‘always-on' work culture. This has led to calls by different stakeholders for a ‘right to disconnect', to draw clear boundaries between one's professional and private life.

The EU Labor Force Survey shows that the overall proportion of people working from home in the EU has almost doubled in the last few years, from 11.1% in 2019 to 20% in 2022. While remote work can allow for flexible work arrangements, it also raises questions on how to ensure workers' rights are respected in a more digitalised work environment. Would be curious to see where this EC initiative eventually lands.
