Last week marked my first 6 months with GXO Logistics, Inc. Seems like a good time to draw breath and reflect. The time has flown by, there has been a lot to learn and understand about the business and the people in it - and I think that will carry on for some time to come. Generally its has been such a positive experience and here's my top 3 reasons why: 1) There's no sense of hierarchy, our senior team are really open and approachable - a dream to work with, especially when doing a review of IC and making recommendations for new channels and approaches and making tweaks to existing ones! And everyone has been really welcoming and supportive. 2) It's a big business and there's a lot to get to know. The business is so diverse, not just the people but the customers and products. And the ways of working and process people follow in the warehouses depend completely on the products they are handling. Some of our colleagues are using some juicy tech to support them in delivering for customers. 3) I have had a chance to make an impact already. I'm in a small team with a big remit so I'm empowered to try new things and adapt them as I go. I've already rolled out a number of tweaks to existing channels and formats and, today, I rolled out a new channel to around 14,000 'wired' colleagues. Bonus reason: I love getting my high vis and safety boots on and going to site to meet colleagues. Thanks to everyone who has supported me - from across AMAPAC, Europe and the UK&I- since I joined, you know who you are. I might need a bit of a lie down now though!

We think planning a good distribution for your fresh products is a must before the start of harvest and shipments. You will never sell everything at the best price, but you must commit to achieving a better sales average than the previous year. Include your losses in your average, that way your numbers are realistic. You know your cost of production, you know what you want to profit, and then act accordingly. You cannot afford to have crop unharvested or dumped because you did not plan your sales. Remember that somebody has to buy your product and eat it, and then most importantly, come back to the store and buy again hopefully within the same week.
