As a career, or pursuit of study, financial services and planning, should be considered, strongly. No doubt, it takes aptitude and attitude, to make a go of it in the financial services profession. But. Such a career can also afford you a certain level of independence, and latitude, not to mention performance-based earnings, that should not be dismissed out of hand. At the very least, gaining, or improving, one's personal knowledge base on financial planning issues is incredibly helpful. And then, the prospect of being able to offer others, well-researched, well-presented, recommendations, that can help secure, or at least solidify, their financial future, can turn a job, into a vocation, highly valued.

Skills for Success Careers Fair - Reaching out to all of my business contacts! This year we will be using our careers fairs to raise awareness of key skills needed in the workplace. Increasingly, employers are telling me that young people don’t have the skills they need for employment; to help tackle this we will be asking businesses to showcase the skills that they use on a day to day basis and to talk to pupils about their importance. Here are my takeaways after reflecting on the Leeds Beckett Careers Fair last Wednesday... 🎓Graduate Opportunities are easier to find than you may think! 🎓 Scared about your future after you graduate? 'The Big Beckett Careers Fair' taught me that companies including Next, ASDA, DHL, Mackenzie Stuart, West Yorkshire Police, Bet365, Civil Service Fast Stream and many more are offering exciting opportunities to graduates with an array of different job roles available which cover many degree subjects. 🌐 Networking is daunting? 🌐 Not at all! Many people have preconceived ideas that it's difficult to make connections in their chosen industry, but professionals are often more open and approachable than we expect. For example, I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Nick Weavers from The Mackenzie Stuart Group, who was genuinely interested in learning about my career aspirations and took the time to share valuable insights about his company. This experience reinforced the idea that, when you take the initiative, professionals are often eager to engage, offer guidance, and explore mutual opportunities. Building connections doesn’t have to be intimidating—it's about starting authentic conversations and being open to learning from others.

Second chance opportunities are an important part of reentry, recovery, and reduces recidivism. Consider giving someone trying to better themselves a second chance!
