eVTOL: Will China Seize the Opportunity to Lead the Future of Urban Air Mobility? China is positioning itself at the forefront of eVTOL (Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) technology. With nearly 900 eVTOL models in development globally by October 2023, Roland Berger forecasts 5,000 will be operational by 2030 and 45,000 by 2040. In China, eVTOL pilot projects launching in six cities by 2024 and the creation of the Low Altitude Economy Division demonstrate a strong commitment. eVTOL offers faster, cost-efficient urban mobility. A trip from Lingang to Hongqiao Station in Shanghai takes just 30 minutes by eVTOL, compared to 1.5 hours by taxi or 2.5 hours by subway. The technology’s potential for high-speed, short-haul trips across metropolitan areas in China, such as the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta, is promising, with speeds of 300 km/h over distances up to 300 km. Technologically, eVTOLs feature innovations like ducted fan technology and distributed propulsion systems, making them quieter, safer, and more efficient than traditional aircraft. With ongoing advancements in battery tech and autonomous flight, China has a unique opportunity to lead this transformative transportation revolution. #eVTOL #ChinaTech #UrbanMobility #Innovation
