It appears that government is taking an increasingly detailed interest in the telecoms industry whether it is oversight of the proposed M&A activity, investigating Motorola's position with Airwave and the ESN project, or in this case looking into value for money from the Shared Rural Network. 🚨 Australia’s 3G Shutdown: New ACMA Rules for Telcos 🚨 As of October 28, 2024, the shutdown of Telstra and Optus 3G networks has transformed mobile connectivity in Australia. Alongside this, the ACMA has introduced crucial new rules https://lnkd.in/gBuwdRee for telcos to ensure customer safety, especially regarding emergency call access. These regulations, which IoTAS Australia actively supports with our S042.1 emergency call testing and as an active member of the ACMA, require telcos to: 📲 Identify Incompatible Devices: Detect mobile phones that cannot access the Triple Zero emergency service, including ‘camp-on’ setups for emergency calls. 📢 Proactive Customer Notifications: Inform customers if their phones lack access to emergency call services. 🚫 Restrict Service for Non-Compliant Devices: Stop supplying carriage services to phones that are unable to access emergency calls. 💬 Provide Alternatives: Assist customers by offering information on low-cost or no-cost mobile phones. 🤝 Enhance Financial Hardship Policies: Update policies to ensure that customers in financial hardship can receive help obtaining an affordable or free mobile phone.
