Eliminating violence against women and girls is pivotal to achieving gender equality, women’s empowerment, and the Sustainable Development Goals. Elimination can only be done through prevention. Successful prevention requires - Political commitment and leadership - Implementing laws and policies that promote gender equality - Investing in women’s organizations - Allocating resources to prevention - Addressing the multiple forms of discrimination women face daily Ending violence against women begins with RESPECT and a collective commitment to act today. The framework outlines seven inter-related intervention strategies derived from the word “respect” - Relationships skills strengthened - Empowerment of women - Services ensured - Poverty reduced - Environments made safe - Child and adolescent abuse prevented - Transformed attitudes, beliefs and norms Partner up with BISRAT to create a protective community for women to have a better and inclusive tomorrow. #bisratsquoteoftheday #empowerwomen

By promoting education, economic independence, and leadership opportunities for women, societies can challenge the norms that perpetuate inequality and violence. Empowered women are better equipped to advocate for their rights, access justice, and influence policy changes that protect against GBV. Gender-based violence is considered one of the most prevalent types of violence in societies, targeting individuals based on their gender. This violence can manifest in various forms such as physical, emotional, economic, and sexual violence. Culture and the arts play a vital role in combating gender-based violence by contributing to community awareness, changing behaviors and misconceptions, promoting positive values, and achieving gender equality. There are several ways in which culture and the arts can help combat this type of violence, such as raising awareness, encouraging critical thinking, empowering women, expressing personal experiences, and promoting positive interactions.
