It's been one year since the idea for BEAM was born. One whole year. As I type that, it feels surreal that 365 days have passed since that fateful day in a nursing mother's room that sparked a movement. It's easy to say that I've learned a lot, but I think that does the last year a disservice. It isn't easy to build businesses in today's climate, especially as a woman when we receive less funding with more obstacles. The bigger challenge: building a business that is scalable and intentional, from a position of inner strength that is counterculture to the hustle that gives way to "productivity" in a results-driven environment. My success: a year of listening to moms from all backgrounds share their experiences. Their truth: they feel unrepresented in the many ways they show up in media, they have a deep desire for connection, and they're ready to share their stories - they just need a megaphone.
