Golf is like lifeand business leadership. Watching the US Open reminded me how crucial it is to stay composed under pressure. One golfer's meltdown was a stark contrast to another's steadfastness, reflecting the importance of resilience and focus in leadership. Just like in golf, in business, it's how you handle the rough patches that define your success. #leadership #coachjeffgarrett #executivecoaching

As a professional advisor, I’ve learned the importance of fully understanding a situation before offering solutions. This means recognizing all the stakeholders and nuances involved. The best advice I received from my mentor was to remain infinitely curious. Taking the time to thoroughly grasp the issues at hand can transform the advice you give. For instance, the conversation in the video could have gone very differently and kept this man from giving advise to a PGA Golf Coach like Georgia Ball, and revealing his own bias. In any professional environment, it’s crucial not to assume you know more than others at the table. Instead, take the opportunity to learn about the hidden talents and insights your colleagues can offer. This approach not only enriches collaboration but also enhances the solutions we devise together. “The King” was a winner in many different ways during his lifetime, on and off the golf course. Class, style, and rooted in real life - which made him so popular with the masses. Having an attitude like this one will keep your inner fire lit, especially when you think you won’t be successful at something. Arnie is my all-time favorite golfer, and I’ve included some jewels of his in my new book, “Twist the Familiar.” Whether or not you play or even like golf, it doesn’t matter - he said many things that are useful to people in many situations. #motivationalspeaker #twistthefamiliar #motivational #Arnie #leadership #businesscoach #leadershipcoach #salescoach #success #winning #training

Leadership comes in many forms. For me I believe that guiding folks to meet thier goals is most important. This is true both in sport and in life. Holding somone back because you don’t want them to get hurt or feel disappointed is a disservice not only to them but the organization as a whole! Failure is inevitable… those who learn from that and get back up will find success as long as they are surrounded by leaders who recognize this and give them the bandwidth to learn and grow. “Golf: A series of tragedies obscured by the occassional miracle.” While walking through Hobby Lobby, these words caught my eye. I thought about them for a moment… Golf is a series of mistakes. These mistakes are camouflaged by the occasional accident of executing the exact shot as intended. Golfers spend a lot of time making mistakes. The magic happens when they can reduce the variation in shot execution. Those that do it best, like Marisa Messana, can compete at the highest level on a professional tour. Even amateurs can learn to do it very well and regularly shoot low scores. Everyone can’t be a professional golfer, but they can become great at managing the inescapable and inevitable variation within their professions to achieve desired results with more regularity. I bought the wall decoration that day and it hangs in my home office as a reminder of perspective to help me through life’s peaks and valleys, ebbs and flows. #SufferLessImproveMore #continuousimprovement #leadership #management #problemsolving

Think about one of your greatest fears. SHARK! For many, being in the middle of the ocean and seeing dorsal fins swimming towards you would have to be at the top of any list. SHARK! With the Catalina Classic approaching, Tyler Garfield and his crew Michael Collins Psy.D. Gabriel Lipps faced a daunting moment during a 20-mile training paddle when they saw dorsal fins swimming towards them. Tyler's response to handling this fear is real and authentic. What I loved was how he wanted to check in on his crew. As a leader, having your team’s back is always important. These guys all have each other's back. Pretty special when you’re 9 miles off shore. Leaning into the discomfort of FEAR, has taken on an entirely new meaning. The video is a little long (3:00), but worth the listen. If you're a leader, what's your take? #leadership #coaching #transformation #positiveintelligence #mentalfitness #predictiveindex #coactive #team #highperformingteams

🏌️♂️⛳ Despite facing adverse weather conditions this week, including 60 mph wind gusts and sideways rain, it was an unforgettable experience! Just as in NCAA golf, where missed shots often pave the way for comebacks, setbacks in business present opportunities for growth. The resilience, focus, and strategic thinking honed on the golf course directly translate to effective leadership. Let's view setbacks as catalysts for innovation, utilizing our experiences to motivate our teams and achieve success in the face of challenges. What good leadership looks like …. “There is a temptation to believe that if you invite someone to your level, you somehow give up some of your position or achievement, but that’s just not true. In Ledecky’s case, no one was confused about who won. No one thinks less of what Ledecky did because she shared the podium. … The lesson here isn’t complicated. As a leader, you have an opportunity to use your platform (in this case, literally) to lift up the people around you. In fact, I’d argue it’s more than an opportunity, it is your responsibility. That’s what Ledecky did, and it might have been the most impressive moment in her legendary career.” #leadership

The parallels between executive and leadership coaching (what I do) and sports coaching (which I definitely don’t do) are mostly overrated but this clip IS somewhat similar to what I do insofar as I encourage clients to take risks and am there to catch them if or when the risk doesn’t immediately pay off. So they can try again and ultimately succeed. https://lnkd.in/gFSztin6

It's easy to get caught up with what everyone else is doing, to try and guess what's in their heads or what their strategy is for the way forward.
