Sharing an excellent report that's just been launched: Community-led Housing for All. Housing co-operatives and community-owned housing present a viable means for addressing Oxford's affordable housing crisis, by creating homes that are permanently affordable - as opposed to "affordable homes" sold on the private market that are only affordable the first time they are sold... Research shows that Black and Ethnic Minority individuals find themselves at the sharp end of the affordable housing crisis and yet are underrepresented in the co-operative and community-led housing sector (though this hasn't always been the case; there is a rich history of Black-led housing co-ops in the UK). This report looks at the barriers BME communities face in accessing community-led housing and shares recommendations to facilitate participation. Co-authored by community-led housing practitioners Henri Baptiste and Claude Hendrickson MBE, alongside researchers from University of Liverpool and Sheffield Hallam University.
