We know that apprenticeships are for everyone: regardless of who they are, where they live, or their age.
That’s why we’re dropping the age requirements on our entry-level apprenticeships: making all of our opportunities open to everyone.
Whether someone is 16 or 60, we want to use apprenticeships to support them to build meaningful, sustainable, and well paid careers.

This week, we shine a spotlight on apprenticeships—a powerful way to bridge the gap between education and opportunity. Apprenticeships don't just help students picture their future; they empower them to live it.
As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, let’s commit to supporting and expanding these opportunities. Together, we can ensure the next generation not only imagines their potential but brings it to life.
How are you or your organization investing in apprenticeships and workforce development? We are committed to supporting your talent strategies. #NationalApprenticeshipWeek#CareerDevelopment#FutureReady#OpportunitiesForAll#CESA6#YouthApprenticeship#MentorshipMatters#WorkforceDevelopment
Happy 10th annual National Apprenticeship Week (NAW)!
NAW is a nationwide celebration highlighting the successes and value of registered apprenticeships—an "earn-and-learn" model approved and validated by the U.S. Department of Labor or a State Apprenticeship Agency. Workers who complete registered apprenticeships earn an average of $300,000 more over their careers compared to peers who do not, making it a key strategy for improving job quality and creating access to family-sustaining jobs for all.
At Irvine, our #BetterCareers initiative supports organizations that provide ongoing wraparound support to apprentices and are committed to growing equity and inclusiveness in California’s apprenticeship programs. These include the Institute for Local Government, which helps Californians from underrepresented groups gain new job skills and climb the ladder in the public sector. Learn more about their work tomorrow in our upcoming blog post! Stay tuned!

This week is National Apprenticeship Week — a time to celebrate the unique “earn and learn” programs creating clear, debt-free paths to quality jobs with family-sustaining wages, benefits, and opportunities to advance in California and beyond. The James Irvine Foundation is proud to support innovative organizations reimagining apprenticeships to meet both worker and employer needs.
One such organization is Love Never Fails, which provides IT pre-apprenticeship programs for survivors of human trafficking, combining technical training with essential wraparound support services. Their approach demonstrates how apprenticeships create a win-win — participants who face significant barriers to employment benefit from access to sustainable, quality careers while employers benefit from a skilled pipeline of workers.
Irvine also supports the Northern California Apprentice Network, led by the City and County of San Francisco, in its work to expand access to high-road "new collar" apprenticeships. Their programs actively include workers who have historically been excluded from the labor market, helping close regional equity gaps.
With one in three California workers in low-wage jobs, apprenticeships offer a proven way to access well-paying careers that don't require a four-year degree. The future of California's workforce depends on expanding these programs so more people have access to quality jobs and family-sustaining careers. We're grateful to work alongside partners like these who are building a more equitable California economy through innovative apprenticeship programs.
