The increase in savings may be attributed to the country's improved demographic in recent years. The Philippine population is the world’s 12th largest at more than 113 million with an average age of below 25, thereby fundamentally supporting the relatively fast growth in the economy and also the much faster/better growth in savings rate. Businesses and industries hit by pandemic have been recovering and therefore boosting incomes and savings. The country’s move towards middle income country status would fundamentally help sustain future growth in per capita income levels and consistently also in savings rate as well for the coming years/decades. https://lnkd.in/gYv5ixkb

Understanding Per Capita Income Correctly To understand per capita income accurately, consider these key points: 1. Basic Concept: Per capita income is the total national income (or income of a region) divided by the total population. It’s an important economic indicator often used to measure living standards and assess a nation’s economic development. 2. Doesn’t Reflect Income Distribution: This metric provides an average but doesn’t show disparities between different social groups. A country may have high per capita income, yet the actual income distribution among its population may vary greatly. 3. Doesn’t Assess Quality of Life: Per capita income only measures financial income and doesn’t capture factors like healthcare quality, education, living environment, or levels of happiness. 4. Influence of Inflation: Increases in per capita income don’t always indicate economic development; sometimes they simply reflect rising inflation. 5. Comparisons Between Countries: This metric can be useful for comparing countries but needs to consider differences in living costs and cultural factors that affect the actual value of income in each country. Understanding per capita income correctly provides a more realistic view of living standards and a country’s economic situation, avoiding the misconception that a higher average income means prosperity for everyone. The government has completed the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES) exercise for 2023-24, and preliminary analysis shows that its results are largely similar to the one of 2022-23, a senior official told FE. So, the 2022-23 survey results are most likely to be used for formulating the new Consumer Price Index (CPI) series to avoid any further delay, the official added. #cpi #baseyear #economy #news #indianeconomy #exclusive

The monthly per capita expenditure survey reveals quite a bit when read between the lines. there is considerable disparity across states with definite patterns emerging as southern and western do better than others barring Punjab and Haryana. This can be pointers for companies targeting households for their products. But the sample may be too small to capture the entire country. a view in Buisness Line today.

New Research Alert: Our latest study, published as an IZA Discussion Paper, discusses the gender-specific effects of the cost-of-living crisis across six European countries. This comprehensive analysis, co-authored together with Karina Doorley and Cathal ODonoghue, employs a novel decomposition method adapted from the taxation literature, incorporating a gender dimension to provide new insights into the regressive impact of inflation. Key Findings: · Greater regressive inflation faced by female-headed households compared to men in middle-income countries like Portugal, Poland and Hungary and high-income countries like Ireland. · In Germany overall inflation has a neutral impact on women, whereas Finland stands out with a progressive inflation, more pronounced for female-headed households. · The burden of food and heating/electricity inflation is disproportionately borne by low-income households. · Heating/electricity inflation has a larger regressive contribution to overall inflation for female-headed households in all countries, whereas for food this holds only in Poland and Hungary. · The findings highlight the need for targeted policies.
