Made me think again just how much the recent #technologyregulation wave is transforming #legalpractice and its various specialisations, as we know them. To give but one of the most obvious examples, just try doing #competitionlaw nowadays without seriously delving into #dataregulation and #digitallaw - you will have some serious blind spots. Feels like we may slowly be moving towards the need for more versatile lawyers - or risk having to run projects with oversized teams in an era where pressure on legal fees is ever increasing. On the other hand, the complexity of the new layers of regulation is huge and specialisation needed perhaps more than ever. Maybe #AI and other #legaltech tools will come to the rescue, but they are no quick fixes and in any case - based on today's state of the art at least - they are only part of a potential solution. The Washington “My Health My Data Act” (WMHMDA)1 was signed into law by Gov. Jay Inslee on April 27, 2023, and took effect on July 23, 2023. This consumer protection law creates extensive consumer data rights and obligations for regulated entities and small businesses as to how and when they can collect and share personal health-related data.
