AC Ventures, in collaboration with Deloitte, has released its 2024 Impact Report, highlighting the firm’s ongoing commitment to driving meaningful change in Southeast Asia. The report reveals that 40% of leadership roles in AC Ventures-backed companies are held by women, and more than 30,000 jobs have been created, benefiting over 4 million individuals and businesses through digital tools and financial inclusion. Additionally, portfolio companies have collectively reduced over 4 million metric tons of CO2 emissions, demonstrating the firm’s focus on sustainability and its role in creating positive social and environmental impacts. Having laboriously examined over 330 active venture investors across the region, Deepshikha Monga and Abhishek Chatterjee have put together this insightful report on 'Women in Southeast Asia’s VC Ecosystem' for DealStreetAsia. Key takeaways include: ● Only 17.9% of investment decision-makers at SE Asian venture investors are women, and the share has remained relatively stagnant compared with 2023 (17.4%). ● Around 67.2% of regional venture investors still lack a woman in an investment decision-making role. This report is required reading for anyone examining the VC ecosystem in SE Asia through a gender lens.

This trend is part of a broader shift towards stakeholder capitalism, where companies consider the needs of all stakeholders, not just shareholders.   💡 Why is this the case? Diverse-led companies usually bring these characteristics to the table;   #SocialImpact Focus: They aim to address societal issues and create positive change.   #Sustainability: They focus on environmental sustainability in their services and products.   #InclusivePractices: They tend to create a more diverse and inclusive work environment.   #CommunityEngagement: They have a strong emphasis on giving back to and supporting local communities.   Despite their positive impact, #diverseowned businesses face significant challenges in access to funding which remains a major hurdle. ➡ Women-owned businesses for example account for roughly 2% of all venture capital investment globally. In Europe, businesses founded by women raised just 1.8% of the total capital invested in venture-backed startups in 2023.   It has been found that around 70% of shoppers are willing to spend more money on products that have been produced sustainably.
