In disengaged wet clutches, a considerable proportion of the power loss is caused by the viscous shearing of the cooling oil between the individual discs. To optimize the #efficiency, the aim is to minimize these losses (drag torques) which can be largely done by tests or #cfd calculations. Besides the #optimization of the clearance, the cooling oil temperature and the oil volume flow, the drag torques can also be influenced by the groove design.
