⚡ The Tuned Mass Damper (TMD)⚡ 👉 A tuned mass damper(TMD), also known as a harmonic absorber, is a vibration control device installed inside the structures to reduce wind induced vibrations. Their application can prevent discomfort of inhabitants and damage to the building. 🏗️ Two representation of structures with same weight, stiffness, and damping is shown in the video. If the outside force induces vibration, it shows almost identical horizontal movement. Due to the low damping, the vibration’s duration is quite long as well. 🏢 Now if we activate TMD, the structure on the right quickly dampens the vibration. In essence, the vibration on the structure activates the TMD, and the absorbs the vibration energy from the structure. Many real-world engineering problems frequently involve the complex interplay of Multiphysics phenomena. One interesting example of this is flow-induced vibration, which occurs when fluid and solid interfaces exchange information. A few years ago, we attempted to replicate galloping, a form of vibration caused by flow, at a flow speed of 12 m/s, constrained by our wind tunnel's maximum capacity. Now, with the help of Schlieren flow visualization techniques, we have been able to examine flow-induced vibrations at supersonic speeds of Mach 1.5 in our lab. The footage provides a striking glimpse into the interaction between shock waves and structural responses. Special thanks to Salim Maharjan for the footage. My concept of particle triangulation and rotation offers a unique model for understanding element formation. By controlling the particle axes at each angle—mass, velocity, and momentum—stable elements can be created much like polymers. The rotation and interaction of the pen+, pen-, and pen= phases ensure that the system continuously evaluates possible configurations until a stable structure is achieved.
