It's been a slow month for notable and interesting agriculture and food deals, but a few interesting things to note: 1) Private equity is all over the food and beverage space, including some notable deals with Encore Consumer Capital acquiring Chalet Desserts and L2 Capital acquiring a rub and sauce business called Kosmos Q 2) Lots of discussion and focus right now on the vertical farming, indoor farming, farmland and agtech space. Cellular Agriculture Australia has just released a comprehensive new white paper on the current landscape and future opportunity of the precision fermentation industry in Australia, chock full of great policy recommendations for Australia to capitalise on the nascent sector's potential (https://lnkd.in/gz-zRvrG). One idea from the paper that to me really encapsulated the potential for Australia to create a new onshore value-add manufacturing sector was this: "Phil Morle of MSV estimates that fermenting Australia’s entire $2 billion sugar crop into dairy fats and proteins could generate AUD $50-$80 billion, approximately 14 to 22 times the current value of the sugar industry." And for the APAC regional context this is also a huge opportunity for the world's second largest sugar exporter, Thailand! ICYMI: IntelliCulture Targets Strategic Growth with $3.5M in Funding IntelliCulture, an equipment management software platform for specialty and high-value crops, has secured $3.5 million in new funding led by Serra Ventures, LLC and including Emmertech and Tall Grass Ventures. Regulatory and environmental pressures continue to mount for growers, but especially for those producing high-value crops. DN Agrar’s Growth: From Fields to Fortune DN AGRAR Group, Romania's largest integrated cattle and sheep farm, forecasts significant revenue growth in 2025, thanks to a compost factory launched in 2024. Peter de Boer, Strategy and IR Director, emphasized plans to double revenues over the next three years by expanding their Straja farm (5,000 cattle), acquiring new farms, and producing biomethane. The group reported 9% revenue growth in the first nine months of 2024, reaching 127 million lei.
