To close the week, a case study from our Building Acoustics team. This one was led by Eduardo Manzano Fontecha. We have demonstrable experience in the acoustic design of gymnasiums. We cover the complete range of acoustic and nosie requirements from baseline noise and sound insulation surveys, detailed acoustic advice for the control break-out and vibration transfer to spaces internally and externally, and plant noise assessment and mitigation. 105 WIGMORE STREET UNTIL commissioned us to provide acoustic advice for their new gymnasium located at 105 Wigmore Street, London. The gym, situated in the basement of the building, required careful acoustic planning to ensure minimal noise disturbance to adjacent spaces, including offices and reception areas. The acoustic design recommendations we provided ensured that the gym could operate without causing significant noise disturbance to adjacent spaces. The proposed solutions effectively controlled both airborne and vibration-induced noise, creating a comfortable environment for both gym users and other building occupants. We receive lots of opportunities to help solve acoustics problems throughout the course of a day. Sometimes the information we provide is very specific, and sometimes it has broader principles that can help others. This is a great example of information that we can share to help others experiencing similar struggles with their venues! While the design team believed that 40+ people in the gymnasium would reduce the echo, and even with reports of up to 400 people, echoes persist. This is because bodies alone cannot absorb enough sound to manage the acoustics of large, hard-surfaced spaces like gymnasiums. Reasons Acoustic Treatment is Necessary: - Sound Reflection: Gym walls, floors, and ceilings reflect sound, creating echoes that bodies alone can't absorb. - Sound Absorption: Acoustic panels are designed to absorb sound energy, reducing echo and improving clarity. - Consistent Performance: Proper acoustic treatment ensures consistent sound quality, regardless of occupancy. While people do absorb some sound, the large reflective surfaces in a gymnasium require dedicated acoustic treatments to manage echo effectively.

In an era of rising costs, finding savings is a natural course of action 💸 However, there are areas where reducing expenses cannot come at the cost of crucial aspects, such as residents' safety ❌ So how can you protect the municipal budget while prioritising people? An ideal solution lies in modern forms of street lighting, such as the Designpole 💡 Designpole is more than just a pole—it’s an integral element of urban space, a perfect combination of modern design, advanced technology, and tangible savings 💰 With the ability to illuminate the pole independently of its upper lighting fixture, this solution not only provides lighting and reduces light pollution but also lowers electricity costs 📉 All this makes Designpole a perfect choice for modern urban areas seeking to harmonise aesthetics, functionality, and cost optimisation. More info about Designpole you can find on https://lnkd.in/dubQtVHP

Did You Know? The acoustics of a building can significantly impact our well-being and productivity. Innovative building designs now consider the 'soundscapes' of environments, aiming to reduce noise pollution and enhance sound quality. Quiet spaces can lower stress levels, improve concentration, and even boost overall happiness. This evolving field in architecture shows how tuning into the sounds around us can create harmonious spaces that support both our mental health and our need for productive, peaceful environments. Do you think about acoustics when designing your spaces? Let us know in the comments! #BBFH is powered by Advanced Glazings Ltd

🔊 Spray Foam Insulation: Transforming Acoustics in Commercial Buildings 🏢 As an industry expert, I'm excited to share insights from a recent article highlighting the acoustic benefits of spray foam insulation in commercial spaces. Key takeaways: 1. Spray foam significantly reduces noise transmission, creating quieter and more comfortable environments. 2. Its open-cell structure absorbs sound waves, minimizing the impact of both external and internal noise. 3. By sealing gaps and cracks, spray foam prevents noise from traveling through walls, floors, and ceilings. The implications for occupants are profound. Better sound insulation can boost productivity, reduce stress, and enhance the overall work experience. 📈 Notably, spray foam insulation is a cost-effective solution for achieving superior acoustic performance compared to other soundproofing methods. It also contributes to a building's sustainability by reducing energy consumption and improving indoor air quality. ♻️ The article showcases compelling case studies of commercial buildings that have successfully implemented spray foam insulation, demonstrating its tangible benefits. 🌟 As the demand for acoustically optimized spaces grows, spray foam insulation emerges as a game-changer in the industry. It aligns perfectly with the increasing focus on occupant well-being and sustainable building practices. 🌿 I encourage fellow professionals to explore the potential of spray foam insulation in their projects. Let's engage in discussions on how we can leverage this technology to create acoustically superior commercial spaces. 💬 What are your thoughts on the role of spray foam insulation in shaping the future of building acoustics? Share your insights below! 👇 #SprayFoamInsulation #AcousticPerformance #CommercialBuildings #OccupantWellbeing #SustainableBuilding

KE Fibertec ducts are widely used in local authority leisure centres and commercial gymnasiums, with notable clients including LA Fitness, Cannons, Livingwell, ROKO, and Holmes Place. Here's why they stand out: 1. Large amounts of cooling without drafts: Textile ventilation systems provide substantial cooling capabilities while avoiding the creation of uncomfortable drafts. This ensures a comfortable environment for occupants, whether in leisure centres or gymnasiums. 2. Long air throws: With air throws ranging from 2 to 25 metres, these systems effectively distribute air across large spaces. This feature ensures even temperature control and ventilation, enhancing overall air quality and comfort. 3. Cost savings on ducting and installation: The textile-based nature of these ducts offers significant cost savings in both material and installation. They are lighter and easier to install compared to traditional metal ducting, reducing labour and material costs. 4. Impact resistant: The ducts are designed to withstand physical impacts, ensuring durability and a long lifespan even in busy environments like gyms and leisure centres. 5. Aesthetically attractive: Beyond functionality, these systems are designed to be visually appealing. They blend seamlessly into various interior designs, contributing to the overall aesthetic of the space. 6. Easy to maintain: The design of these systems prioritises ease of maintenance. This reduces downtime and operational costs, making them a practical choice for high-traffic environments such as sports and leisure facilities. Nicoll Russell Studios Ltd - SUSTAINABILITY Nicoll Russell are involved in a broad variety of projects across Scotland, its islands and in England. Many of these are major projects where sustainability in all its forms is increasingly important. We therefore offer Passivhaus Design inhouse via our accredited Passivhaus Designer Adam Staniland. Adam and our team work alongside others in the practice who have delivered Passivhaus schools, care homes, and have developed proposals for leading zero carbon developments. For more than a year our green group has facilitated learning across the practice via an intensive series of CPD seminars focussed on Passivhaus, EnerPHit, Net Zero and other related subjects. Alongside stage by stage hands on practical examination by some of our architects of building envelopes, retrofit, insulation, membranes and taping via thermal imaging. In the last twelve months we worked on major venues, sports, theatre, residential, retail, church, food and beverage, regeneration, office, visitor attraction, education, conservation, station, transport and infrastructure projects, regularly collaborating with major consultancies and Tier 1 Contractors.
