For all organic #certifications, the Government has established The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) as the certifying body. However, it seems even Hon. HM is uncertain about the authenticity of certifications, advocating for a specific brand. Does that mean other APEDA-certified products are not authentic? This confusion extends to many individuals who question the reliability of organic certifications. It’s time for greater clarity and trust in our certification systems. Let’s strengthen transparency in the #organic #food ecosystem! or try to use maximum #Homemade products from our #villages. U-Turn4Nature

🍷🌿 Organic Evolution: How New USDA Regulations Are Reshaping the Wine Import Industry The recent updates to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Organic Program (NOP) are significantly impacting the wine import industry. The Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) rule, effective since March 2023, requires all entities in the supply chain to be certified organic. This regulation aims to strengthen the integrity of the organic label and prevent fraudulent practices. For small wine importers, such as Athena Bochanis of Palinkerie, this means navigating new challenges and increased operational complexities. The SOE rule mandates certification for all handlers of organic goods, including brokers and importers, which expands the responsibility beyond just producers. Key Steps for Compliance: Understand the Requirements: Familiarize with the SOE rule specifics and USDA guidelines. Obtain Certification: Apply through accredited agencies, detailing operations and organic handling procedures. Prepare for Inspection: Ensure compliance with NOP standards and traceability of organic products. Maintain Records: Keep detailed records of all organic transactions for inspection. Stay Informed: Keep up with evolving regulations and policies. While the immediate impact includes increased costs and complexities, these measures are anticipated to benefit the industry by protecting consumers and enhancing the credibility of organic labels. Effective communication and support from the USDA will be essential for a smooth transition and the sustained growth of the organic wine market. #OrganicWine #USDARegulations #WineIndustry #OrganicCertification #BeADragon #MarketTrends #SustainableGrowth

September is Organic Month and as artisan food wholesalers specialising in cheese & charcuterie, we work closely with independent retailers to select high quality produce, some of which is organic. One of the main benefits of organic produce is that it’s better for the environment and for us because there are no synthetic pesticides, fertilisers or GMOs. Organic produce is often fresher and contains high levels of nutrients, whilst meat and dairy produce come from higher-welfare animals that aren’t pumped full of hormones or anti-biotics. Some of the organic products we stock include... High Weald Dairy – Organic Sussex Velvet Shepherd’s Purse – Organic Yorkshire Blue Blackwood Cheese Company – Graceburn Whitelake – Bagborough Brie Caws Teifi – Organic halloumi Trethowan Dairy – Pitchfork Cheddar SUSSEX HIGH WEALD DAIRY LTD Shepherds Purse Cheeses WHITE LAKE CHEESE LIMITED Caws Teifi Cheese Trethowan's Dairy

Organic is a vital part of the US food system," wrote the USDA spokesperson. "Any time an industry grows, and there are new financial opportunities, there are also opportunities for fraud. The USDA organic regulations are not industry or product-specific. To better protect the industry, certified operations, and consumers and prevent fraud in the supply chain, USDA requires organic certification of most businesses in organic trade, including wine importers." The organic landscape is changing for the better and I love to see the integrity of the US standards being implemented. Whether this is exactly how the process should evolve, we are not sure. But certainly, there needs to be processes in place to not dilute the word organic. Certified organic in the US is quite possibly the most stringent in the world and these are keeping organic in place buy shopping only labeled Certified Organic. As a certified organic farmer and wine producer, we appreciate the structure strength of the processes in place. There are brands and companies out there promoting organic wines and other products, that are not certified organic, that do not contain the seal or label of organic certification. It's time for transparency so consumers can better understand when it says organic, it is certified organic, from soil to bottle. Know your farmer, know your wines. #organicfarming #FoodandBev #wineindustry #ROC #CCOF #Biodynamic CCOF Regenerative Organic Alliance

New rules for organic mushrooms and pet food have been published in the Federal Register (https://lnkd.in/e39b-vHC). All organic mushroom and pet food operations must comply with the new rules no later than February 22, 2027. The new rules: • Clarify which crop production standards mushroom producers should use, and which new requirements should be followed for mushroom substrate and spawn used in mushroom production. • Standardize existing practices in organic pet food handling by applying the regulations for organic processed products to pet food. • Allow the synthetic amino acid taurine to be used in organic pet food. Need to update your Organic System Plan to incorporate these rules? We can help. #Organic #mushrooms #petfood #regulatorycompliance

⚖️🍄📢 MEATI FACES ANOTHER FALSE ADVERTISING LAWSUIT OVER ‘MUSHROOM ROOT’ CLAIM Just a week after it settled a false advertising lawsuit in California, mycelium meat producer meati™ was hit with another legal complaint over its ‘mushroom root’ claim in New York. The class-action complaint was filed on December 23 in Superior Court of California, County of Kings by local resident Mario Burns, and accuses Meati of misleading consumers over the true contents of its vegan steaks and chicken cutlets. The plaintiff argues that since Meati uses Neurospora crassa – a red mould that commonly grows on bread – as its base ingredient, advertising its products as ‘Made from Mushroom Root’ is a case of adulteration and misbranding. “As the typical consumer is not a botanist, they should be forgiven for not knowing the differences between fungi and plants, especially in the 13 seconds taken to choose what to buy,” the complaint reads. “The mycelium used in the products, from Neurosporo crassa, cannot be used to create or grow mushrooms, and is not a mushroom.” The complaint claims that the products are sold at a premium price (around $8.99 for 8.8oz) “as a result of the false and misleading representations and omissions”. The plaintiff suggests that he would not have paid such a high price had he known that the products were made from mycelium.
