Unlocking Innovation in 2024: A Call for Strategic Action 📢 A few days ago, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) published a revealing report on the current state of corporate innovation. Some key takeaways: - 83% of companies view innovation as a top-three priority, yet only 3% are ready to transform these priorities into tangible results - 52% of respondents identify unclear strategy as a top-three challenge in their organizations - Despite this, 70% focus on boosting the efficiency and speed of their current operating models rather than rethinking their strategy These highlights show a significant gap between priorities, innovation readiness and execution. At iN3 Ventures, we feel this urgency. That's why we adopt a bottom-up and hands-on approach to build a relevant innovation strategy. By analyzing disruptive startups and venture capital investments industry by industry, we help corporates structure a coherent and balanced venture approach. This creates strong competitive advantages in both the short and long term. Here the report link: https://lnkd.in/dKGvscmN #CorporateVentureStrategy

Corporate Seed Funds – Nurturing the Next Big Disruption 💡 What if the next game-changing innovation in healthcare, energy, or technology didn’t emerge from a small startup, but from the strategic foresight of a corporate giant? Corporate seed funds make this possible. By investing in early-stage startups, corporations are no longer simply responding to industry disruptions—they are actively creating them. These seed funds provide early visibility into emerging technologies and trends that have the potential to reshape industries. This isn’t just about financial returns—it’s about securing a front-row seat in the innovation ecosystem. By engaging with startups at their inception, corporations can influence the trajectory of breakthrough technologies, ensuring that they align with their long-term strategic goals. The corporate seed fund model allows companies to act as both investor and innovator, cultivating the future of their industries from the ground up. This proactive role positions corporations as leaders in the innovation landscape, not just as participants. 🌍 Is your corporation actively engaging with early-stage innovation? Are you positioned to drive industry disruption rather than react to it? #CorporateSeedFund #InnovationLeadership #DisruptiveInnovation #StrategicInvestment #FutureOfBusiness

To spur innovation, businesses have spent billions on internal venture capital, incubators, and accelerators. Yet survey after survey indicates these efforts aren’t producing results. Why? Because firms fail to address one major obstacle: the day-to-day habits and routines that regularly stifle innovation. These include such things as poorly run meetings, no slack capacity, few opportunities to speak up, and the notion that doing things differently is inefficient and costly. https://buff.ly/2o4rxX4 #innovation

🚀 I’m excited to share my latest publication, 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲: 𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹, now featured in the 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. Collaborating with Magnus Schückes, Benedikt Unger, and Tobias Gutmann has been an incredible journey into understanding how corporate venture capital (#CVC) units can thrive at the challenging intersection of corporate and venture domains. Key Highlights: 🔑 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗩𝗖 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 Our research reveals that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach for CVC success. Different configurations are needed based on the strategic goals of the CVC unit, whether it’s focused on exploitative (immediate corporate value) or explorative (future-oriented innovation) outcomes. Understanding this distinction helps CVC leaders tailor their setup to optimize for specific innovation objectives. 🔑 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 CVC units often face tensions between the corporate parent and the startups they invest in. Successful units strategically balance autonomy with collaboration. CVC units should focus on buffering to protect venture activities from corporate constraints while employing bridging to maintain useful links to the parent organization when necessary. 🔑 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 The maturity of a CVC unit significantly affects its configuration. Younger units benefit from closer ties to corporate business units for legitimacy and alignment, while mature units can afford greater autonomy to explore disruptive innovations. This dynamic means that the CVC unit’s setup must evolve over time, adapting to its stage of growth and strategic focus. 🔑 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗞𝗲𝘆 CVC units that excel in both exploratory and exploitative innovation strike a delicate balance by maintaining selective collaboration with the corporate core while also remaining independent enough to pursue new technologies and markets. Corporate leaders should support this dynamic approach by encouraging selective integration with business units only when mutual benefits arise. This paper provides a robust framework for CVC professionals aiming to structure their units for both short-term performance and long-term innovation. I hope it offers valuable insights to #practitioners as well as #scholars navigating the unique challenges of CVC in corporate environments.
