👥 How can we balance the diverse needs within affinity groups to foster true community uplift and care? 💪 And how do we measure success? I had the incredible opportunity this past weekend to dive deep into these questions at the The BOND Project conference, facilitating a session titled "Lifting as We Climb: Affinity Groups as Community Uplift and Care." The energy and engagement from all the participants truly made this a transformative experience! Thank you to Daman Harris and the BOND team for the opportunity to share. In the session, we explored effective strategies from my book for creating successful affinity spaces and discussed practical ways to meet diverse needs, ensuring that every member feels seen and supported. As you can see from this brief clip, there was positive *buzz* in the room as we harnessed each other's brilliance! 👇 👇 👇 For those who missed the session or are eager to delve deeper into the discussion, I encourage you to sign up for the newsletter. You’ll get access to free resources shared during the session, and stay updated on upcoming events and workshops. Don't miss out on these and other valuable tools to support and retain a diverse teacher workforce. 👉 Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/ekqUai7x #BONDConference2024 #CommunityBuilding #AffinityGroups #DiversityAndInclusion #ProfessionalDevelopment #Networking

Objective 3 is to take the methodology of Our Place Wye CIC to another community in Kent - ideally a less affluent community. I don’t suppose many people will be familiar with this methodology 😊 but it’s something that I and others have been working on for the past ten years and now it’s probably overdue being tested elsewhere. So what is the methodology? It involves a number of activities designed to enhance wellbeing in the local community: a newsletter delivered to every household four times a year, a well-policed Facebook group, a regular community lunch, an annual thank you party for people who help out. Most of these elements are run by volunteers so it’s also very much about recruiting, mobilising volunteers and keeping them engaged. Nothing very unusual about that is there? And maybe it’s a bit overblown to call it a methodology. But I think of it as a methodology because it's taken some time to evolve. We've tested various things that haven't worked and there are now systems that support all of the activities that we've put in place. It seems to work here so it’s been on my mind for quite a while to take at least some of the elements elsewhere and see if they work there. Next year will be the year. https://lnkd.in/d5X2uyj8

I keep harping on about local community but I honestly do feel that it is something that we need to fight for. With increasing digitalisation lines are going to continue to get blurred between reality and the virtual world. Human contact is the one thing that the virtual world can't give us and we need to keep tight hold of this. At The Informed Perspective Jennie and I are busy doing all we can to promote the benefits of social interaction in the local community and human connection which are far reaching. One of the benefits is having a support network to offer help when you need it and vice versa. Read our latest blog on how to ask for support and why it's so important! https://lnkd.in/dC8RtaYc
The theme of the month at The Informed Perspective is SUPPORT. We're exploring whether we feel we receive enough of it in our lives. Everyone needs help from time to time, but do you find it easy to ask for support, or do you prefer to handle everything on your own? When times get tough, who do you turn to? Asking for help is a skill we should all feel comfortable with, just as we should be ready to offer support when we can. Both the person asking for help and the one providing it can benefit from the exchange. Visit our blog to learn more about how to ask for help and why it matters. #informyourperspectives #balanceyourscreens #bringbackthelove #localcommunity #parenting https://lnkd.in/dC8RtaYc

🧶 Weaving Social Fabric: The Power of Group Facilitation 🧶 Group facilitation is more than guiding conversations; it's about weaving our unique strands into a stronger, interconnected social fabric. In this process, I’m reminded of ancient Indigenous practices of community care and mutual aid, where each individual’s diverse contributions were not just valued but essential to the community’s resilience. Facilitating spaces where people can come together to share, listen, and support one another mirrors this tradition. It’s a chance to create networks of mutual support and understanding—an antidote to the isolation we so often feel today. In these spaces, we remember that our collective strength lies in the diversity of our experiences, skills, and knowledge. When we gather in the spirit of mutual care, we can foster a sense of belonging, bring forth untapped potential, and remind each other that we are stronger together. Just like strands in a tapestry, our connections make us resilient. What are some ways you’ve seen community come together to support each other? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
