Appreciating academic performance can be done effectively by acknowledging achievements in a meaningful and motivating way. Here are some strategies: Help students set specific, achievable academic goals. Break larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks to make progress more attainable. Encourage students to view challenges as opportunities for growth. Reinforce the idea that effort and perseverance lead to improvement. Celebrate Successes: Acknowledge and celebrate both small and large achievements. Recognizing their hard work boosts confidence and motivation. Here comes the toppers of the sessional examination in IV semester and wishing them to aim higher and secure University ranks in upcoming exams. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking

I’m very proud of the work that we do with our students at Baruch. And I’m happy to see it recognized on a large scale (like The NY Times). Because of this, I’d tweak the title of this NY Times article — in my experience, the value of what we deliver doesn’t come from being a “machine.” Though I certainly do appreciate good alliteration in a title! ———————————— We are human – and that is a very good thing in our classrooms. Remembering and honoring our humanity enables sustainable teaching and learning. ———————————— It’s because of the value of human connection in our classrooms that I wouldn’t refer to us being a machine. Humanity is at the core what we do — and vital to us doing it well. Maybe this as a title instead? “Baruch College, a Catalyst for Upward-Mobility.” It may not sound as catchy, but I feel it more accurately describes what I do in my classroom. ———————————— I know I may be way overthinking this, lol. 😂 But as a communication person, I often think deeply when it comes to language. I understand from the research in my field that words matter. ———————————— What do you think? ———————————— How can we teach and learn at a more naturally human (not machine-like) pace? This is what I refer to as sustainable teaching and learning. I explore this question in my Keynote speech on “Rethinking Academic Rigor” where I critique the tradition of academic rigor and offer ways that we can rework our teaching to bring maximum quality and impact with sustainable effort and energy expenditure — in a way that honors our humanity. Recent studies have highlighted a strong correlation between student attendance and academic outcomes, particularly at critical points like the GCSEs. The equation is simple but powerful: higher attendance rates = better results. Every lesson is an opportunity for students to build understanding, develop skills, and ask questions that solidify learning. Missed days mean missed moments to engage and grow, which can make a significant difference, especially during exam years. But attendance isn’t just about numbers; it’s about creating habits of consistency, resilience, and commitment. These are not only the building blocks for academic success but for lifelong learning and professional growth. As Dr. Emily Grant, a renowned educational psychologist, once said: “Attendance isn’t just a statistic; it’s the heartbeat of a student’s educational journey.
