Up to 36% of Europeans risk exposure to chemical or biological substances at work, according to the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA). That number seems low, considering many businesses use liquid cleaning products that require manual dilution and personal protective equipment to handle. I guess only 36% of workers are required to do cleaning? 🤔 If you're looking to save your employees that risk, take a look at Ecolab's tablet format addressing small businesses' needs: https://lnkd.in/dKMTw9jj Statistic data source: https://lnkd.in/dpPRjhJf

Chemical hazards pose significant risks to workers in various industries. According to recent data, chemical exposure accounts for a substantial number of workplace-related illnesses and injuries each year. Protecting employees from chemical hazards is essential to ensuring their safety and well-being. Implementing proper chemical safety measures not only prevents injuries and illnesses but also promotes a healthier work environment. By effectively managing chemical hazards, businesses can reduce absenteeism, enhance productivity, and minimize healthcare costs associated with chemical-related health issues. Tips: 1. Conduct a thorough assessment of chemical hazards in the workplace to identify potential risks and determine appropriate control measures. 2. Provide comprehensive training on chemical handling, storage, and disposal procedures to all employees. 3. Use engineering controls such as ventilation systems and containment measures to minimize chemical exposure. 4. Ensure the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and respirators for workers handling hazardous chemicals. 5. Establish clear emergency response protocols and procedures in case of chemical spills or accidents. Prioritize chemical safety in your workplace to protect your employees and your business. Essential or not? When there are real and scientifically assessed reasons for continued use of Chemicals of Concern (CoC) for a limited extended time, there are some criteria that need to be fulfilled to declare these uses as essential • for health and life protection • when critical for the functioning of society • when no available technically and economically feasible alternatives/substitutes, that are acceptable from the standpoint of environment and health. If one or more of these criteria are not met, the use cannot be considered as essential.

In the U.S., we've seen the states adopt PFAS reporting requirements. Recently, the EPA delayed federal PFAS reporting under TSCA Section 8(a)(7), but Canada also has adopted PFAS reporting for 312 substances showing national trends. PFAS chemicals are a topic that is only growing and will definitely be something to focus as the field quickly keeps shifting. https://lnkd.in/d6fpzTuR
